#4. Solange - "Losing You"

Bitch just came outta nowhere and DESTROYED right from the start of Q4. Producer Blood Orange's work here is amazing, but it's primarily Solange's vocals that give the song the vulnerable touch it needs. I won't dwell on the fact that she is Beyoncé's sister, but fun fact! it's better than all of her songs minus ~4.

#3. Big Sean, Jay-Z, & Kanye West - "Clique"

First song down from the top 3 is this BANGER. Kanye is the glue here, no surprise, bringing out the best in Big Sean and Jay-Z like he always and sometimes does, respectively, and of course being partially responsible for that beat. It's more fun than it is anything else, but they do touch upon an impressive amount of subjects throughout the course of the song. The highlight of its parent album, and of mainstream 2012 hip hop in general.

Also, without it, we may never have gotten this gem.

There's a reason this song was everywhere, and it's that it is the most brilliantly constructed pop single of the last 5 years. INNOVATIVE without sacrificing any of its catchiness, there was no better chorus in any other song this year. Everything else is great too of course, but really... that's all that matters.

#1. Usher - "Climax"

I run through the vocals and production qualities of many songs, but I think here more than anything else on the list the two compliment each other to elevate the piece to its full potential. After the TRASH that was most Raymond v Raymond I didn't expect much from Ursh, but he returned with a heartfelt and accurate depiction of a failed relationship; beautifully sung and perfectly paced. Diplo does everything he can to match and expand the epicness, and in the end we are left with several things: chills. A return to greatness. A new beginning. And the best song of 2012.
