Sanity is one of the most difficult words. I think you could write a song about inner peace, mental stability, being in a good place in life.

The first song that springs to mind is Lauryn Hill's Miseducation ("the answer, it was in me..."), my fave's I Am and maybe even some of the stuff MJB wrote after she stopped doing drugs.

Don't do MJB like that

I've tried, Lord knows I've tried. But I feel like I'm not in the place so I can't. What I've written so far was an ode to someone who sort of helps ground you as a person. A friend or saviour that keeps you sane, so to say. But it's too wordy and it doesn't work with shorter sentences.

You've given some great insight though.

I can't tell you what I'm here for before you submit since I'm one of the judges, but I can tell you that your song has to be about ONE of the opposites, not both of them. So if your words are happiness and depression, your song has to be about one of them, not both or a transition from the one to the other.

Same for me. I've already scrapped one song and it's taken me overnight just to get a decent verse that I'm happy with. The self doubt and lack of inspiration is real!

I'm reworking it now and I think it's gotten better, but I just noticed so many cliches in the first draft I really needed to revise it. I think I have some much stronger stanzas and couplets now
