An 8 year old girl performed "Mean" and dedicated it to her state's governor.
Quote:
LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP- The Margaret E. Lyons Memorial Scholarship Fund raised over $5,000 for Southern Regional High School students, but eight-year-old Kiera Lyons stole the show when she performed Taylor Swift's "Mean" and dedicated it to Gov. Chris Christie.
To hear the song click here.
Kiera is the daughter of Long Beach Township police officer Kevin Lyons who is also the administrator of the State Policemen's Benevolent Association's legal protection plan. Lyons also works with the scholarship fund.
Kiera said she's feels bad that Christie didn't keep his promise to protect her father's police pension.
"He said he was going to be a great guy and he just lied. He wasn't a good guy and he took money away from my family," she said.
"He's mean by what he did," she said of Christie's pension legislation last year that resulted in police officers and firefighters contributing more to their pensions and health benefits.
During the 10th annual fundraiser Sunday afternoon for the scholarship fund at Kubel's II restaurant, Kiera belted out Swift's song.
Police officers and other public employees who attended the event Sunday afternoon clapped along as the tiny Kiera performed standing on a chair and clutching a microphone.
"This was her idea to sing this. She did a great job. She has seen her father upset in the last year and knows Gov. Christie has hurt our family," Lyons said

Just found out about the massive Titanic Quarter remembrance MTV concert that's happening in Belfast this April....it's literally at my school, not even exaggerating.
Really hoping Taylor might go, it seems like her thing. Classy, historic, the love story associated with the film...fingers crossed here.

Found a good article.
Quote:
As a long-time fan of rock music, I have enjoyed listening to songs created by such notable female singers as Ann Wilson of Heart, Pat Benatar, and Joan Jett over the years.
More recently, I have been impressed with the wonderful voices of alternative rock singers like Amy Lee of Evanescence and Lacey Mosley of Flyleaf.
But in my opinion, when it comes to having a truly great voice, nobody in any musical genre could ever match Whitney Houston.
And that’s why it was so sad to hear that Houston, the legendary gospel/pop/R&B singer, was found dead in a hotel room last weekend at the too-young age of 48.
Houston’s incredibly powerful (and yet supremely beautiful) vocals, and her ability to effortlessly glide from one emotion to another, enabled her to transcend all musical boundaries and attract legions of fans. When she sang “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” I was wishing I could be the “Somebody.”
We don’t yet know exactly what caused her death. But we do know that tragically, much of Whitney’s life was marred by substance abuse. Let’s hope that young singers today will learn important lessons from Whitney’s experience and seek to avoid such destructive habits.
THE GRAMMY AWARDS last Sunday night offered a chance for the music industry to pay tribute to Houston, and Jennifer Hudson did a terrific job of honoring her with an emotional rendition of “I Will Always Love You.”
Also at the Grammys, attention was focused on young British sensation Adele, who took home six awards following the huge success of her album “21.”
It was inevitable, then, that some people would ask the question: Will Adele go on to become the next Whitney?
My answer: No. Whitney is in a class all by herself. But there’s no doubt that Adele has lots of talent.
Although I’m not a fan of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” I like her new single “Set Fire to the Rain,” and I’m absolutely mesmerized by her haunting ode to an old friend, “Someone Like You.”
With a lovely piano accompaniment, Adele has produced what I would call the ultimate “Facebook” song — a deep longing to connect with someone from the past who is now married and has moved on.
What gives the song such an intense edge is that it has a borderline stalking mentality — “I hate to turn up out of the blue, uninvited, but I couldn’t stay away, I couldn’t fight it.” Adele proclaims that for her, “it isn’t over” — but then she abruptly acknowledges that in the end, maybe it’s best to find an alternative lover.
It’s clear to me, based on this type of songwriting, that Adele has the potential to eventually become one of the all-time greats.
But that will happen only if she treats her throat well. Last year, she was forced to cancel two tours because of vocal cord hemorrhage and had to undergo microsurgery.
Apparently, she’s fine now — but she needs to stay away from cigarettes and alcohol. Remember what we were just saying about Whitney’s destructive habits?
ANOTHER young female singer who has exploded onto the scene in recent years is Taylor Swift, the pop/country hit machine.
Swift deserves credit for being able to write very tuneful melodies. However, I’ve had doubts about her ability to sing in a live setting ever since she wailed off-key at the Grammys a couple of years ago.
But when I watched the Grammy telecast this past week, I was impressed with how much Swift has improved as a vocalist. The audience was delighted as well, giving her a much-deserved standing ovation, and she looked rather shocked by the adulation. Keep up the good work, Taylor.
AND speaking of talented vocalists, I wanted to provide an update on Fontana’s very own David Burnham, who has been a star on Broadway (he was one of the leads in “Wicked”) and has released two CDs. Last year, he wrote a song called “One Day,” which was one of my favorites of 2011.
Last week, Burnham (who generously gives of his time for many good causes), performed at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards in Palm Springs.
This Sunday, Feb. 19, Burnham will be singing at Back to the Grind in Riverside.
Burnham has already won several awards for his acting, and I think he deserves to be honored at the Grammys as well. Maybe “One Day” it will come true.
