Coven = Asylum > Hotel > Murder House = Freakshow
I understand Freakshow had less to the plot, it also felt like elements/plot-points were thrown together and resolved at the last second, but over-all I think it stands with the others just fine. They did a good job presenting this elaborate world to the viewer and making it convincing, all the character interactions felt deep and genuine.

Asylum > Hotel = Murder House >>>>>> Coven >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Freak Show
Coven would actually be higher if it wasn't because of the camp. It just doesn't fit with the other seasons.

This tbh. The first part of the season was BRILLIANT. Everything, from the introduction of each character, to the plot, to the humour, to the horror, to the acting. Everything was excellent. Then the 2nd part happened and it was a MESS. The show jumped ship after Marie and Fiona made up, the witch hunters were introduced, and Lalaurie became a pointless floating head.
The opening of the season, with the introduction of Lalaurie and her attic and the amazing soundtrack felt ICONIC.
Coven also has amazing replay value. Basically, all seasons have except Freakshow. It's the only season i've never watched again. I've watched all seasons 3-4 times each.

But NONE of the seasons fit in with each other. Each has a strange, defining quality in them not seen in the others.
Murder House: Drama
Asylum: Horror
Coven: Camp
Freak Show: Trash
I can't name what Hotel's is yet

That's not what I meant, each of the seasons have had some form of horror to them, except for Coven. Murder House: Psychological, Asylum: Gore/Torture, Coven: N/A, Freak Show: Body Modification (?), Hotel: Psychological / Gore
It was more about the camp than anything else. The scariest thing was Taissa's acting.
Coven doesn't fit under the American Horror Story umbrella and it never will.
Ryan could literally connect it to Scream Queens and no one would be none the lesser.

What is this nonsense? First of all, gore does not equal horror. AT ALL.
And the first part of Coven came through with the horror aspect. Delphine LaLaurie alone >>>>>>>>

Coven > Hotel = Asylum > Murder House > Freak Show
Coven remains the season with the most replay value which makes it the best.

None of Coven was horror.
Not the first half, second half, 7/8th, etc
Gore is a form of horror.

And Coven lucked gore? Did you even watch the season? By your logic.
Zombies = Horror
Witches = Horror
Gore = Horror
Black Magic = Horror
Serial Killer = Horror
Torture and sacrifice = Horror
Coven has all of the above, so by your logic, it should be pretty horrific.
Anyways,
Madame Lalaurie alone is more horrifying than all of Freakshow tbh.

I know she was the scariest thing about Coven, that's why Coven is ranking higher than Freak Show.
All of those are considered to be horrific things, but even with those horrific things, it can be parodied like with Coven. They parodied zombies with LaLaurie's daughters and the whole coven itself was a joke.

Coven's horror came at random, shocking intervals. Like we're at that big white house at one moment, then suddenly we're seeing Myrtle dismembering a body, or we're watching Fiona having sex with the Axeman then suddenly a flashback to Delphine torturing people. You can't say there was no horror to it.
And Freak Show had camp to it; Coven may have had a bitchy kind of camp, but those cartoon-esque slaps in Freak Show were cringe-worthy.
And, as Marty said, the replay value slays.
