"SURREAL" was released September 27, 2000 and was the final single released from Ayu's third album 'Duty'. Both the single and album were actually released on the same day and when both hit #1 Ayumi became the 4th artist in Oricon history to top the single and album chart in the same week. The single was later ceritified 2x platinum by the RIAJ.
"Baby Don't Cry" was released on January 24, 2007 and was the third single released from the 'PLAY' era. It was also the most successful single released from the 'PLAY' era. Physically it peaked at #3 on the Oricon singles chart and was certified gold by the RIAJ. It landed at #48 on year-end Oricon singles chart for 2007. Digitally the song was a huge success selling over 1.6 million in ringtone and PC downloads.
"HEAVEN" was released on September 14, 2005 and was the third single released from the '(miss)undertsood' era. The ballad was used as the theme for the Japanese film 'Shinobi Heart Under Blade'. The single peaked @ #1 on the Oricon singles chart and was certified platinum by the RIAJ.
"Hide & Seek" was released as the main promotional track for Namie's eighth studio album 'PLAY' released on June 27, 2007. The album debuted @ #1 on the Oricon album chart and stayed at #1 for a second week. The album was later certified double platinum by the RIAJ. As for "Hide & Seek" the song became very popular with the Japanese public and the video took home Best R&B video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards Japan. In 2010, Namie performed the song @ the World Music Awards where she also took home the award for Best Asian act. Her performance marked the first time a J-Pop artist performed on a Western award ceremony.
Well it's good news and bad news for us Namie fans.
