Why not to punish and ban ALL athletes who were found doping instead of going for collective punishment and exemplary sentences ? That would have been much more effective imo.
Collective punishment was applied on the whole Russian athletics squad and Paralympic team, these athletes were collectively banned from Rio, even though most of them had no history of doping and went through extensive testing before Rio to prove they are clean (including hair samples), but they were still banned, yet other proved cheaters were allowed to compete. And no, I dont mean just Gatlin. Its actually a huge number of athletes. Each country has its fair share of (proved) doping scandals, just look at the mess that is the US track and field for example.
This is the first time such an extensive punishment was applied withouth scientific proof or physical evidence. It is based on allegations. Honestly, can you say it was not politically motivated?
