A review on Usher's whitney perfomance by Pop Crush
Usher is one of the many formidable acts paying tribute to fallen legend Whitney Houston on the CBS special in her honor. Footage has emerged of Usher covering the Four Tops’ ‘I Believe In You and Me,’ the same track Houston belted on the soundtrack to ‘The Preacher’s Wife,’ and Usher absolutely nailed it.
Set to a backdrop of photos of Houston, Usher performed with a sole spotlight on him until the end of the first chorus, when more lights surrounding the stage went up at the cue of Ush’s hand. Though most of Usher’s performances are famous for their choreography (with the exceptions of Chris Brown and the late Michael Jackson, few men on this planet can move like Usher can), the ‘Numb’ singer’s voice showed off its power. He sang the tune in the same register as Houston, embodying a falsetto that showed just how impressive his range really is. He can move you without moving much, a testament to his vocal ability.
The special was filmed Oct. 11 and will air in full on Friday, Nov. 16 at 10 PM ET. The special will coincide with the release of Houston’s greatest hits compilation, ‘I Will Always Love You – The Best of Whitney Houston.’
