As I said if the GYWYL is at least a bit controversial too (which can be connected to lyrical content of the song) I can see those gossip sites reporting about it and comparing it to "horrible and racist" HK. The song is amazing and loved by almost everyone who heard it. And let's be honest radio would not play 17 or any other song (maybe with the exception of YASNY ) either. I'm here for a release of GYWYL soon after HK. I'm sure it can benefit from the Attention that this whole Drama brought Avril. I also think it's useless to argue whether US Radio would support it or not. They do or they don't. The moderate Success that LMG had in Canada and some other Countries (Austria is still stanning 7 Months after release) proves that people are here for her Ballads.

But without radio support, releasing the song as a single is useless.

Calling it "moderate success" is also very generous. When you compare it to the success she had with I'm With You, When You're Gone and Keep Holding On - LMG is virtually unknown. The biggest music markets never even picked the song up.

Also, GYWYL is not a conventional ballad (I don't even consider it a ballad), and it's not radio friendly in any shape or form. Like you said, it is useless arguing whether or not radio will support it - but at the end of the day, without radio support a single has NO chance (i.e Rock n Roll).

Finally, let's say GYWYL gets released early Summer/late Spring - it's being released at perhaps the worst time of year for this kind of song. Releasing GYWYL in summer, is comparable to releasing SOS in Winter, it just seems wrong.

Avril fans say "the GP will see a different side of her after the fun/immaturity of HK" - didn't we say the same thing about LMG after HTNGU and RnR!?

I just don't think any Artist should pick a Single bc they think it's Radio friendly. US Radio Stations do not support her anyways. She should focus on those Markets that are still here for her. US Radio Stations won't play any Song from the Albums. At this Point we are not talking A possible Smash that GYWYL could be - that would be delusional. We are talking about Damage Control. GYWYL is a Stand-Out on the Album and it derserves to be a Single.

What is even the point in releasing the song if it's going to get no exposure? They can release GYWYL with a deep/meaningful video, but if it get's no exposure, it's still going to be overshadowed by the immaturity of Hello Kitty. Therefore no damage control, it's completely pointless.

Of course it's going to get exposure. Not having commercial success doesn't mean it won't get talked about. Even her video for Goodbye got people talking, and that was released ages after the "hype" for GL had died down.
