Emotion is a great album, maybe a little overhyped by ATRL, but still great

There's one more stop on this express, or did you forget? I still got 10 tracks left to rihveal!
My personal pick from the album, it just embodies that sing-a-long feel the most I think. Really, no skirting around here. It's just a fun little pop song, not the most substantial song on the album but definitely the most fun. The quick-fire verses to the catchy chorus, the lyrics are nice storytelling and the whole thing has a lot of spirit. Lovely little bop.
Tough picking just one song from this album, but I did it. Honestly, I'm not sure why I gravitate towards this particular song so much, but I can't help it. Her voice is so pretty here, and the soft note at the "you take me back" part with that tender production, then followed by a ravaging chorus is definitely a moment. The tenderness is what elevates it from the songs around it, the whole thing is just a great listen with a cute chiptune at the end.
Now I love a good RuPaul album, they always bring bops and are great for working out among other things. This latest one I wasn't feeling too much, except for this track which reunites Ru with the producer of her amazing debut album, thank you gay god.
A very 90s house inspired jam, this is so good. If anyone knows 90s house I would probably say it's RuPaul. Or Robin S, but let's not. The chorus is an event for sure, I love the camp appeal on Ru's songs but this is one of the best ones that I think can stand outside of the album.
The album made my list basically on the strength of this song, where ART meets POP in the bowels of space and creates this glorious bastard child. For real though, this is the part of the album where the weird side and pop side clash the most and it's glorious. It's a shame neither side matched up on their own but oh well. This is undeniably catchy with enough quirks to keep it interesting and not burn out after like 3 listens, looking at Flesh Without Blood, the lyrics are pretty cool too. Just a really cool track from an album that doesn't always get it right.
The first thing I heard from the album and the one that remains my favourite to this day. This song really made me pay attention and give the album a chance and look at it now. Of course I love this, it has a disco beat on it. That's insta-love from me. Kendrick's rapping is at its smoothest here, he glides over the beats and slips into the blissful chorus so well. What kind of nu-disco jam?
Of course, being a Kendrick song, it's a case of deeper than the surface value. The lyrical undertones and the desolate beginning and end to the song really frame it and make it a lot darker than you would initially think. It's another example of Kendrick's vision like I mentioned, but honestly? Sometimes I just prefer to sway to this without thinking about it. Sorry.

Although I personally think Art Angels always gets it right, ( ) I am SO happy you picked Kill V. Maim as a top track, definitely one of the best standouts from her!
These Walls and Kamikaze are great choices too! I can't wait to see the top 5.

What kind of flawless top 3.
Emotion, as you said, is pop perfection. It would've probably been in my top 3 as well. Jazmine's album is great too, so.
Oh, and that #1 is mine too. There's no other right spot for the best album of the year.
I didn't know you had such a good taste.

Your song highlights for Carly and Kendrick, as well as the descriptions, are perfect!
Great song choices too. Kill V Maim would be my favorite of them, but Kamikaze is a perfect Suzanne track as well. Brandon and Kendricks songs are great, but not necessarily my favorites from them!

Don't care about Brandon really but I like the other songs. Kamikaze is really good, probably top 3 of Susanne, her album for me. Of course, I live for These Walls, amazing just like other tracks on TPAB, and Kill V. Main is great too. I agree that it mixes her two faces perfectly.

Are you ready to jingle ur bells?
Gleaning synths all the way through, that is cool. I love it. Why can't every song have that? This is definitely the blueprint for the rest of the album, her vocals slide over the synths and make a very serviceable jam. The production quirks like the beats and little clickings are very cute, and that chorus melody is what made me pay attention to her in the first place. A monster of a song really, it demolishes everything in it's path and leaves them wigless. A+
Annie is a goddess. Let's get that ot of the way, if you thought I would leave royalty off my list then you are wrong. The amount of emotion she fits on her soft, tiny voice is so impressive and that's what this song is, her emoting. The beat is very minimal, just enough to work but only as a compliment to her. She will make you yearn for the lover you don't have to be next to you
I can play this song any time, any place. It's so instant but still hasn't lost its sheen to me. It's very much in the vain of Heartbeat, but like the cousin. And what a family it is. In terms of sheer emotional response this is my #1 of the year.
Cara mia know you're #1
Though it doesn't cover anything new in lyrical content, his is undoubtedly the most dynamic track on the album. That chorus doe, like this is what I wanted the whole album to sound like. The ad-libs Slay me Miguel. The whole thing is great, like Top 20 material, but then the bridge, good lord the bridge. By far one of the catchiest moments of the year. This song is a stand-out from the album because the production doesn't one-up him, he beats it at the pass and outshines it by himself.
The smoothest moment on the album for sure. Sung beautifully, especially when she goes off towards the end, Jazmine talks about a new love in her life starting sparks and that she's ready to let it burn for real. I mean, I know the metaphor isn't the most original thing but the lyrics are functional and the heavy sample are all great compliments to Jaz. Her gorgeous vocals are the star on this track, but that spoken part just elevates it. It isn't the most experimental or out-there track, but it is a great song that doesn't need to be any of those things. It's the R&B jam we needed on radio this year. Plus, it makes an interesting segway into #1...
Listen, just leave or stay, but I'm done with you tonight...
Shocked? Appalled? Angry? Disgusted? Shaming my taste?
Hopefully.
This was my album favourite from day 1. I was really surprised to see people bashing it so much, especially people who would stan for people who... well, let's just say this song might be lyrically too much for them. If anything that made me love the song even more, how they could hate something that their fave isn't even capable of because it's bubblegum? I guess.
This song is a joyful, energetic bop about a breakup. It was the Winter of my life, after this year and losing in love I had a choice, as we all do. Either pull an Adele and be miserable, regretful, passive-aggressive and spend all my time thinking about it and comfort eating or just say:
I think I broke up with my boyfriend but I don't really care, I got worse problems.
...and move on.
I took the road less travelled by.
Can we talk about those lite feminist messages tho? 'I got worse problems than a boy', 'What's worse, losing some boy or losing a best friend?'. Why is Carly Rae a better icon for young girls than any of your faves?
Catchy, instant, memorable, positive, feminist, helped me through tough times and bound to make someone scoff at this list.
Can you name a better #1 than that?

Thanks to everyone that commented throughout the pages, I didn't reply to each one but I appreciated every input, even the ones done blatantly to promote their own interests. You made this much funner than it could've been. I really don't hate your faves, my shady style is all exaggeration.
I wanted to do one of these for a while now, but didn't really get around to it until I did this on a whim this year. In truth I don't really feel confident in my writing as I have a lot of trouble putting my thoughts and feelings into words, especially regarding music. In some ways my jokes and shade are a crutch. I just decided to grin and bear it and try my best to articulate.
I always planned to get this finished before Xmas in case you thought it was quick but I had other plans too so maybe I'll do something else with this in January. We'll see.
Thank you again.
