If a white person says "wassup my ****a" to one of their white friends, trying to emulate what they see on television or film or in real life between two black people, is it really bringing the word back to its original meaning of separation, racism, black people being below etc. Like is that how it really comes across, honestly? [asking bc I've seen that a lot in this thread]
I'm not saying it's right and think white people saying it in that manor look a little desperate and cringey, but if the word is a term of endearment now, and a white kid says it as such (even though he shouldn't), do people find it really and truly offensive?

Right. It's no different than the word retarded, which has a new meaning now.

The word has been part of lyrics of people like Rihanna, Nicki, Jay Z among others who have fans from Chinese to white to black people. I know it is used by the black community as empowerment these days, but the fact also artists use it, commercialsed the word to some degree and even though I don't like the word, if this continues than especially more young people might start using the word because they actually think it can be used as a "normal" word, because their favourites also used it in commercial released songs. The context, especially for younger kids these days is really missing so words as the F-word and the N-word will get used more losely. Education is the key, but I wonder if that would reach those kids/people.

This is why I'm so opposed to any of these words being "normalized" or "reclaimed." The truth is, they aren't reclaimed. The n-word, no matter how often I hear Rihanna use it for "empowerment," is still a derogatory slur used to tear down black people. Same for any other words like it. But "normalizing" them pretty much convinced some people of what you're describing, so they don't see the harm in using it.
I mean, obviously Gregg/Bella don't hate all black people or want slavery back, but there's really no way to argue they're in the right with this either. As said, words like that should just be permanently retired from English for all races, genders, sexualities, or other groups. Including those it describes

No it doesn't and most people still wouldn't say it around someone who was actually mentally disabled.

Around the world, virtually every white guy between the ages of 16 and 30 are using the n-word
in private with their friends. This is common knowledge. Don't believe them when they deny it.

Words can hurt whether you'd like to acknowledge that or not and you just writing people off as only pretending to be offended shows how educated you are NOT. To acknowledge that things like police brutality exists you also need to acknowledge racism. To acknowledge racism is to acknowledge that racism is not just an act of physical violence and it never has been. The fact that racial slurs even exist is proof of that. You seem like a smart guy, stop making yourself seem otherwise for the sake of your empty argument.

Sorry if I'm not articulating myself properly, but I'm also not trying to insinuate that words are incapable of emotional consequences. I know that words can make you feel upset or hurt or ashamed or embarrassed or confused or what have you, but my main point is that words that we label "degrading" don't really affect anything in the long term.. I'm a gay black-Mexican teenager, being called the f word or the n word or the w word may upset me temporarily, but do they honestly warrant a long term reaction from me? I've never believed so, but of course I can't force others to agree with what I believe.
I appreciate your compliment, but I have to say that I'm not putting on some hard persona for the Internet, I've genuinely developed an exterior shell that couldn't care less about words thrown at me. I'm pretty much done with this thread though, I appreciate your input.

You're kidding right? Tonnes of people emulate pretty much everything that's popularised in pop culture/media/tv/film.

So the word has a respectful and decent meaning when its used by black people? The word stems from hatred, i dont understand why anyone would use it

He shouldn't have said it, but I'm pretty sure he didn't mean it in a derogatory way.

Is it not true though? There's hundreds (probably thousands) of articles that show white people taking from other cultures and claiming it as their own; the white-washing that goes on in Hollywood, the praise they get when they try "exotic" styles that stem from other cultures, I mean they came and invaded most parts of the world
I wasn't trying to be rude or anything but it's the truth.

It's not acceptable for whites to use the word, unless they're singing along to a song.

I also feel like if black people do not want anyone to say the word, they should stop saying it too.
You cannot make words exclusive to only one race.

Is this a joke
He didn't mean any harm from it, the same way he wouldn't mean any harm if he were singing along to a song with it. So I don't see how he's any more in the wrong for this snap than if he were singing along to a song.
I don't think words meant anything at all, but if they don't even have malicious intent, well it's entirely worthless to be stirred up by it.
