I'm thinking that was more of a sarcastic "gay" that got directed at you. Someone who hated the artist just called you gay for liking them. I hear it all the time. People use the term "gay" as slang for something they don't like. I dislike when people do that (and I'm sure gay people hate that even more than I do) but I'm certain that it is what they meant in your case.
