Well, we are comparing the year, not the albums. Its called management, and if GaGa had released the singles with more time in between they probably would have dominates like BEP. A perfect example of this is Paparazzi and Bad Romance. Paparazzi hadn't peaked yet, and then Bad Romance was released and it took away from Paparazzi.

Umm... MMH is done. Unless of course you consider a song that reached its peak position in 6 weeks, and then began to collapse, a smash.

And while we are on the topic, Gaga and BEP's 1st and 2nd singles both reached the top spot. Gaga's 3rd single (LoveGame) peaked higher than Meet Me Halfway.

It would be slightly different.

Elements of the Hot 100:

Sales (Both digital and physical)
Airplay
Streaming

The streaming and physical sales only make up a small amount of the points for a song but positions could still change if they were close.

Well, since we're talking about sales. So, smash=sales. MMH is still selling and who knows it could reach 3m mark..

I think the Hot 100 is a bit too dependent on airplay. We really don't have that much in a say over what is played on radio, so it shouldn't have as much power on the Hot 100 as it currently does.

GAGA PRODUCES MASTERPEICES, you cannot deny that her music is great, and she never fails to impress. GAGA for artist of the year. She is owning some artists sho have been around way longer than her.

Also, all of her singles have gone #1 on airplay (BR was just released so haters calm down).

All of her singles have gone top ten on the Hot 100 and the Pop 100/Top 40 Mainstream.

Oh, and did I mention the Queen Bey aked her to collaborate with her.

And artist of the year is not just about the charts... GaGa has become a cultural phenomenon this year, the BEP have lowered their status, imo. GaGa redefines pop musc, BEP does what is hot at the time. They don't take risks, they are boring.

And i dont mean to be rude, but GaGa's album had 4 singles that did magnificent.

BEP had two singles that went number one.... and then well, the next single went top ten but then kinda dissapeared.

It should be more like 70% downloads, 5% streaming, 25% radio. It would be best if they totally eliminated radio, but since Billboard is so stubborn and think that the radios are so amazing I don't see that happening.

I don't know. Relying too heavily on downloads makes the chart way too capricious. I liked a recent idea I heard of having sales count as a four-week average, that way songs really have to prove their popularity and we don't get all this jumping 80 spots to #1 business.

This is totally random but i REALLY wanna see Maxwell on the year end charts.

And to add a point, Billboard is crazy, just see, Chris Brown was their 2008 Artist of The Year and all he had in 2008 was 2 songs at #2 and a #43 peaks, and a #1 Hot 100 Airplay, While we had for example: Flo Rida's "LOW" at #1 for 10 weeks + 4 weeks at #1 on Hot 100 Airplay, 7 weeks at top for Katy Perry and "I Kissed A Girl", Rihanna topped the Hot 100 chart with three different songs and #1 on Hot 100 Airplay with two different songs...

Maybe what gave Chris was the quantity not quality, So, It makes Lady Gaga a considerable option!

I have a question though. If Beyonce was their Female of the Year, then how could Lady Gaga win Artist of the Year if she wasn't even the best female? Shouldn't it be Beyonce vs. a male or a male vs. a male?

Or do they not think about that kind of stuff?
