One thing I've been wondering is why do people have like lots of On Deck songs or, here, "Oh Sh-napppp" songs, on their year-end lists. Like, you have nominally a top 30 list. Is it just that your favorite number is 30 and so it must be a top 30 list regardless of how many songs you list? I mean, that's why I had a top 23 last year with 5 almost-charters. Though this year I have much less than 23, which can't be helped.

For me, I just want the hottest thirty songs of 2008. That is a set number for me and if you aren't one of the hottest then, you fall into the On Deck area. I had a shorter list of On Deck songs last year, but that was because last year was kind of crappy in terms of the quantity of great songs and this year was full of great songs. So, I decided to list the songs that came close to making it and it happened to be like 20 or 30 of them.
NG, the man. So sorry I'm late on commenting on this. I just returned from Barcelona!
First off - the #30-21 segment is already friggin booming. MGMT, Katy Perry, Coldplay, Madge, and more. You are right, VLV = epic. The two are easily interchangeable.
And way to recognize "Womanizer" as a second coming. Britney is critical to pop music.
On the oh snap front. New Snow Patrol dissapointed me so much. But loving the Ne Yo - I'm surprised that track didn't make your top 30. Hopefully "Closer" does at least.
NG's Top 30 Joints Of 2008...Presents : Oh Sh-nap! (Part II)
Before going into the top 20 joints, there are 25 songs this year that are so close to making it in the top 30. However, these singles fall short, but I still love them! These songs might be released too late or maybe I just didn't listen to them more enough; therefore, I'd say oh sh-nappp to these tracks.
The Oh Sh-nap List (Part II) #50-46
50. Lupe Fiasco - Paris, Tokyo
- One of my favorite tracks from The Cool. I just wish his singles would have been bigger hits. Anyway, I can't wait for his new album in 2009!
49. Christina Aguilera - Keeps Gettin' Better
- I really liked this song when I first heard it, but the video killed it for me. It's cheap, boring, uninspired, and just not the Christina I used to see in music videos.
48. Duffy - Rain on Your Parade
- This is the opposite of number 49. I didn't like this track so much until I saw this flawless video. I was having trouble choosing between Rain on Your Parade or Stepping Stone to be in my top 30, but yeah the choice is clear now.
47. Beyonce - Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)
- WHOA HO OH! I hated this song at first, but then it grew on me because you know.. Beyonce has that effect. The video and SNL skit with Justin Timberlake become Youtube hits so I have to pay some recognition for her effort.
46. Lykke Li - I'm Good, I'm Gone
- I always love Lykke Li and I have predicted last year that she's one of the artists to watch out for 2008. This single is pretty good but the clip for this one has got to be one of my favorite videos, it's weird yet cinematic at the same time.
