Vanessa Hudgens will be on the cover of the February Issue of Seventeen Magazine.
She talks about the 'Nude Photo Scandal', Zac Efron, and how shes gonna PROVE EVERYONE WRONG WITH HER NEW ALBUM.
Seventeen Magazine: How are you feeling about the scandal?
Vanessa Hudgens: I'm much better now. But truthfully, I don't like talking about it. It was something that was meant to be private, and even though it isn't any more I still like to keep it as private as I can. It was very traumatic and I'm trully upset it happened. I hope all my fans learn from my mistake and make smart decisions. But I wouldn't have been able to get through it if it wasn't for family, friends, and fans, who supported me along the way.
Seventeen Magazine: Who told you the photos had been leaked?
Vanessa Hudgens: I found out from my manager. We heard some story was going to break to the tabloids, and I was like What?!? A few days later the pictures came out while I was on vacation in Australia. Thank God, I wasn't home, it woud have sucked if I was home. So I got to be away from L.A. for a millisecond. But when I came back, it got kind of crazy.
Seventeen Magazine: How did you explain the situation to your mom?
Vanessa Hudgens: I was just open with her, and she was just so cute. She was like "Well everyone can be naked if they want to" [
Laughs.] My parents are very supportive of me. And they know I'm a teenager, and yes, kids do stupid things sometimes. It's very unfortunate because with the internet these days, you don't have a personal life. Nothing is private: Everyone knows everything, and they can find out everything about you. You're not as safe as you think you are, and you have to be aware of the people you're around.
Seventeen Magazine: Some people have said that you took those photos because you ere trying to get a guy's attention. Is that true?
Vanessa Hudgens: It defientely
wasn't a reach for attention. Nobody should do that, your body is yours, and it's special. You shouldn't just give it out to whomever.
They were for someone I was dating...and it was supposed to be private. Nobody was supposed to see it, and it's unfortunate that everybody did. It's hard because it just shows you can't trust everyone. And you have to shield yourself from situations like that.
Seventeen Magazine: It's like everyone can be exposed now.
Vanessa Hudgens: Yeah. I tell girls all the time: Don't post your private business out there for the world to see. Like, maybe you're at a party with friends, and you guys take a picture together. You're, like, cheek to cheek and making little kissy faces, and you don't think twice about what everyone will think. You just think, Oh this is fun let's put it on MySpace. But something bad can happen from it, it usually does. You just have to be careful. I had MySpace and Facebook profiles along time ago, but I shut them down as quickly as I could. Now my MySpace and Facebook pages are only devoted to my music.
Seventeen Magazine: It's great that Zac stood by you through all this. To you, whats the best thing about him?
Vanessa Hudgens: He always makes me happy. He literally knows exactly what to do to make me laugh.
Seventeen Magazine: But it must be hard dating a guy that
everyone has a crush on. What would you say to a girl who felt jealous because other girls liked her guy?
Vanessa Hudgens: Well, it's hard when you have a good-looking boyfriend. You want your man to be your man. You don't want all these girls up on him and stuff like that. But you have to trust and know you're a good person. And if you genuinely like them and you don't want to do anything to hurt them.
Seventeen Magazine: Tell us about the album you're working on.
Vanessa Hudgens: It reflects who I am. It's not at all what people are expecting. I get bored really easily, so I really wanted to reinvent myself and do something different, do what I wanted to do.
And this time around it's alot jazzier, alot more hip-hop and R&B. I feel like I'm creating my own genre. It's completely different from what people have heard from me.
Seventeen Magazine: Do you think people underestimate you?
Vanessa Hudgens: Yes. I defientely think so, which is why I wanted to do something different in my career and prove to people I'm not just a pretty face.
I am talented. I'm going to prove everyone wrong.
Seventeen Magazine: Do you want to be a role model?
Vanessa Hudgens: It's not that I
want to be a role model or that I'm striving to be one. I'll try to set a good example and if people look up to that than great, I'm glad. But I'm just who I am and that's all I'll ever be.
