Written about my frustration of living in a big city, while laying about the house sick listening to Oasis, this is probably one of my most ambitious (and probably weakest) songs yet. I decided I wanted to write a short, simple song, since I've written longer ones before. I know it's not very good, but it's the first one I've penned not involving a relationship between two people.
Follow Into the Open
Wake up, wake up
Blinds wide open
Find our minds are all closed shut
Look out to the open skies
Brick and stone meet my eyes
My bones are cold and tired for today
Shuffle down into the sound
Of the hearts that beat around me
Drowning in the city lights
All together to the streets
Where the neon hearts are beating
Slowly, leading, through the streets
Get back, away
From the day
Moving, stopping, sitting, staring
Can - you - live like this?
I'm sure that I would lose my mind
I'm sure it happens all the time
Lay down, lay down
Shutters closed
But shutting eyes is hard to do
Look up into the muddy sky
Did all those million stars just die?
My mind is dulled and longing for relief
So when you fall down into dreams
The city's choking, smoking streets
It seems, will make you wish you're someplace else
Out into the open space
Where you can breathe
And move, be free
Get back, away
From the day
Moving, stopping, sitting, staring
Can - you - live like this?
I'm sure that I would lose my mind
I'm sure it happens all the time
Get back, away
From the day
Moving, stopping, sitting, staring
Can - you - live like this?
I'm sure that I would lose my mind
I'm sure it happens all the time
