I didn't know being creative partner with MAC and not simply endorsing them (which Nicki did) was bad.
I didn't know being the face of Balmain and having an entire collection inspired by her was bad.

Touring is not really a way to promote your album, these days for most artists, a new album is an excuse to tour.

A tour is another way to measure success. Tickets sales and album sales are the true measurements of how successful and popular an artist is. People have to spend their money (and time) to attend concerts, so it is a true measure of popularity. Are people willing to invest time and money to see you?

Watching a youtube video, liking someone on facebook or following someone on twitter is not really an achievement compared to getting someone to travel for hours to see you in concert and pay lots of money to see you perform.

Touring is a real and indisputable way to measure success and popularity. Adele still has not managed a big tour yet. I understand this is because she had a baby which is a valid reason, but until she sells out a massive tour like some other artists, she will still be lacking in this department.

Definitely Gaga. Her catalog is already classic (JD, PF, Paparazzi, BR, BTW, EOG) and her meteoric rise to fame in 2009 hadn't been seen since the early 1980s (MJ, Madonna, Prince). Rihanna is HUGE but her mere presence doesn't have the same impact that Gaga's has.

Beyoncé is a veteran act and not really a pop artist, and should actually be placed a rung above.

Some people might simply go to see someone simply because they are a good performer, not necessarily because they like their music (unless your Justin Bieber who has a teen craze).

My cousin did this when she went to a Bey concert, she doesn't even own a CD of hers.

And to me selling 26 million albums in the DIGITAL era is way more important than going on a tour (especially now that the touring market in general is in it's prime)
