JEIBERT'S BEST OF 2013

CASSADEE POPE - 'Frame by Frame'
 | RELEASED:October 8, 2013
GENRE: Country ; pop rock
LABEL: Republic Nashville ; Universal Republic
PRODUCER: Scott Borchetta (exec.) ; Cassadee Pope (exec.) ; Nathan Chapman ; Dann Huff ; Max Martin ; Shellback
FAVORITES:
❤❤❤❤❤ "Wasting All These Tears"
❤❤❤ "Good Times" ; "You Hear a Song" ; "11"
⚫ Former punk-poprock vocalist of the band "Hey Monday" Cassadee Pope released her debut album after winning her season on the reality singing competition "The Voice". While she delivered very greatly vocally, evident enough on her performances week per week on the competition, I think personally though, I dunno if it's just me or what, is that her voice is just a bit whiny for country music! that's a little though, but by far, the material here is really great and is there up on her niche as a country star! Great start for Cass!
2011: Mac Miller - "Blue Slide Park"
2012: Santigold - "Master of My Make-Believe" |
RECAP:
65. The Yeah Yeah Yeah's - 'Mosquito' | 64. Jessie J - 'Alive' | 63. Empire of the Sun - 'Ice on the Dune' | 62. Eve - 'Lip Lock' | 61. Kings of Leon - 'Mechanical Bull' | 60. Laura Mvula - 'Sing to the Moon' |
SINGLES
#113
J. COLE - "Crooked Smile" (feat. TLC)
 | "...Crooked smile, we could style on 'em (back 'round)...Crooked smile, we could style on 'em...(You're the one that was tryna keep me way down)..(But like the sun, I know you know I found my way back round...)..."
ALBUM: Born Sinner
RELEASED DATE: June 4, 2013
GENRE: Hip hop, R&B
LENGTH: 4:39
LABEL: Roc Nation, Columbia Records
WRITER(S): Jermaine Cole, Meleni Smith
PRODUCER(S): J. Cole, Elite
WEEKS ON CHART: 6 weeks
PEAK POSITION: #05
⚫ Definitely one of my favorites off the album and so far, in his discography! And also, the production is one of the better ones, in the whole album! The song has this cool, easy breezy summery vibe that such listener for this type of music easily would get into the groove! Having TLC in the song is such an epic collaboration to be honest! and they delivered on those harmonies! Overall, such a feel good track but I didnt expect that brave and powerful video to accompany the song! One disappointment only is that TLC didn't made an appearance
2011: Patrick Stump - "Spotlight (Oh Nostalgia)"
2012: Eric Saade - "Hotter than Fire" (feat. Dev) |
#112
TEGAN AND SARA - "Closer"
 | "...It's not just all physical, I'm the type who won't get oh so critical...So let's make things physical, I won't treat you like you're oh so typical!..I want you close, I want you..."
ALBUM: Heartthrob
RELEASED DATE: September 25, 2012
GENRE: Indie pop, synthpop
LENGTH: 3:29
LABEL: Vapor, Warner Bros. Records
WRITER(S): Tegan Quin, Sara Quin, Greg Kurstin
PRODUCER(S): Tegan Quin, Sara Quin, Greg Kurstin
WEEKS ON CHART: 5 weeks
PEAK POSITION: #03
⚫ This is very known for their mainstream debut! Definitely one of the best, if not the best crafted pop song of the year! Shame it didn't smash harder than I would thought though! The lyrics are cute, the tune is amazing and it's definitely one of those songs that has very great replay factor! Perfect production courtesy of Greg Kurstin, while the twins served the vocals that I want on this track, no super-impositions, just fun pop-rock vocals with distinct tone and voices!
2011: Katy B - "Broken Record"
2012: Nicki Minaj - "Starships" |
#111
JANELLE MONAE - "Dance Apocalyptic"
 | "...Bands they make her dance apocalyptic now!,..Bands they make her dance apocalyptic!..Bands they make her dance apocalyptic now...Bands they make her dance apocalyptic..."
ALBUM: The Electric Lady
RELEASED DATE: July 2, 2013
GENRE: Psychedelic soul
LENGTH: 3:25
LABEL: OVO Sound; Young Money ; Cash Money ; Republic
WRITER(S): Roman GianArthur Irvin; Janelle Monáe Robinson; Charles Joseph II
PRODUCER(S): Wonder ; Lightning; Monáe
WEEKS ON CHART: 6 weeks
PEAK POSITION: #02
⚫ After the lead single appearing on the last update, Janelle Monae is on the spot again for this set as her 2nd single makes this appearance! Yet another #2 peaking single on my countdown, this song simply shows the more pop, funk, and carefree side of her as oppose to the preachy and more aggressive "Q.U.E.E.N."! As usual in her videos, her facial expressions and groove makes the video attractive visually for me! The good sis let it all out and that long curly weave was just serving! Props to the video also suited much, on the apocalyptic theme of the song!
2011: Cascada - "San Francisco"
2012: Flo Rida - "Wild Ones" (feat. Sia) |
RECAP:
125. Tegan and Sara - 'I Was a Fool' | 124. Avril Lavigne - "Let Me Go" (feat. Chad Kroeger) | 123. HAIM - "Don't Save Me"

♥ the simple FACT that she returned to music this year, that alone was the primary reason for her placement on this position!
♥ that she also collaborated with one of my favorite rappers this year, Kendrick Lamar, an unexpected collaboration for the two

Closer's not bad at all, as well as Dance Apocalyptic.
I'm very glad to see Dido on the 30th place. She is such an underrated artist.
