Saw it earlier today and was very disappointed.

The actors are all fine, but it's the script and direction that are at fault. The script is really weak and incredibly bland. There's no fizz in the dialogue whatsoever. Just actors delivering banal lines as best they can. The main problem though, is the sheer amount of boring action. I absolutely adore big action set-pieces in movies, but the action has to be clever, exciting and entertaining. There isn't a single memorable moment of action in this film, and yet it contains vast amounts of it. The action is so fast, it's just one big mess of over-saturated CGI visuals. The last 40 minutes of the film could be from any of the Transformers movies. Endless scenes of buildings toppling over and 1000s of people running etc etc, but at no point is it ever even *remotely* exciting or gripping. It's just tedious. As I say, the actors do as good a job as they can, and there are a couple of touching moments between Clark Kent and his earth parents, but aside from that, you don't really give a toss about any of it. It's all too big, loud and bombastic. It's a like a bloated Michael Bay action-fest. Zilch in the way of energy or thrills, and for a superhero movie, that's a serious problem.

6/10 at best.

Yeah, and this is one of the most shocking part (the other is the super bland characterization and script) to me since Zack Snyder is known for sheer and stylish action visuals. In Man of Steel, it's like he's in Krypton and the atmosphere sucks all of his talents for visuals out. I get the idea he wants to keep the tone of the movie realistic, but it doesn't mean that he shouldn't find a way to incorporate his signature with realism.

My goodness what an incredible breathtaking mind blowing film this is. Completely different from any other Superman film I have ever seen. In fact, the word "superman" is only said once in the entire film. Henry Cavill embodies the role and the rest of the cast is aces all around too but I especially loooooooooved Antje Traue as Faora. If a Wonder Woman movie gets made she's on the top of my list. And if you have any doubts that this movie isn't action packed put those fears away immediately, it flies high with more action than any movie in recent memory,it's big and spectacular and grand and beautiful. I am one happy Superfan. Go, see it on the biggest screen you can, and enjoy Superman fighting for truth, justice, all that stuff.

I saw it again in Imax 3D. Not worth the 3D, which feels non-existent, but the movie holds up!

I watched it today

It was amazing from start to finish. I didn't even feel the time. It went by so quick.

I have never seen a superhero movie with better scene action. The action was astonishingly great.

Antje Traue as Faora is a star without a doubt.

Superman owned his character and should be his for many years to come.

Go and watch the movie. You will not regret it.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but it has a 55 rating on Metacritic. I wonder what was the problem. I have been reading that critics thought the movie lacked any humor, they were expecting a goofy Clark Kent as a poster here mentioned. I rather see a movie that has that somber tone, something that is serious just like Christopher Nolan has done so.

And you know what's funny ? I counted 7 specific times the crowd laughed throughout the film when i saw it.
I don't know if some critics hate snyder, i don't know if they are still retrospectively in love with the Donner interpretation. I've read several negative reviews, and all seemed like the reviewer just didn't go into the film with an open mind, they had their own expectations on what a Superman movie should be like and their own thoughts on how Superman should act .
Maybe they simply just didn't like the film. All i'm saying is i feel critics are being strangely harsh on this.
I will say this, most of the negative reviews though still listed Henry Cavill as one of the positives.
In fact, three negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are more mixed than negative. Hell a B- rating is listed as negative. *shrugs*
Anyway, while disappointed with reviews, i really don't care now. You want to know other movies that got mixed reviews ?
Taken, Independence Day, Transformers *hey i really liked the first one, 2 sequels sucked though*
