They kind of do in a way.

The majority of people will only remember the songs and the visuals. Katy and Gaga both have that and excel in both of the fields.

Not many will remember the tours/albums/radio dominance apart from stans. Visuals and Singles will always come first.

If they can easily rack up several 5-6+ platinum singles even with piracy then they definitely have some sort of impact on the GP. But I do agree that sales can be quite irrelevant.
