Utterly melodramatic? Absolutely. Better than all the close calls that didn't make this countdown? Probably not. Totally fantastic nevertheless? You know it.

The better sequel to Just Dance, "Monster" takes Gaga deeper into the underworld - of either a not gone out of control, or (depending on how you read the lyric) a tragic case of date rape. I prefer the second reading.

One of my favorite tracks off
The Fame Monster. It's got a massive dance-pop hook, a vaguely retro vibe, and a futuristic, forward-thinking composition—everything that
Born This Way failed to live up to. But isn't it sort of...weird that this second-tier Gaga track made the top 100 over modern classics like "What You Waiting For?" and "Clocks"?

Lovely, but the weakest single released from Michelle's first two albums. Still a lot better than most! But not better than Islands or Stronger.

I miss those guitar grrrl anthems of the early 2000s, with their youthful angst and choruses that invited you to sing along at the top of your lungs...

The best American single of 2002. I'd like to hear one of you try to fight me on this.

I struggled so hard picking between this and "Get Ur Freak On" for my own list. I ultimately settled on the latter, but I wish I could have included them both, because Missy was
on fire at the beginning of this decade. I'm so glad that "Work It" made the countdown anyway.

Garbage. Trash. Rubbish. Deservedly shut out of this year's Grammys, after being puzzlingly nominated for way too much. Love the Way You Lie Part 2 is way better.

Interesting. I actually like this one a lot, especially for Rihanna's soaring vocals on the chorus. The lyrics are kind of problematic, but I think the discussions it raises are important. And "Part II" is definitely better, but part of its appeal is definitely the dialogue that it creates with this version.
