As of this morning, One Direction have officially broken a world record for having their debut single “What Makes You Beautiful” chart at No.2 on the iTunes chart – on pre-orders only! With the band yet to release their first song until September 11th, this is simply staggering, and goes a long way to confirming their status as a mega boyband in waiting.
The X Factor runners-up previously described What Makes You Beautiful as “perfect”; the track, which is said to have an Example/Calvin Harrisvibe, will get its first play on Radio 1 on Wednesday 10 August. The video was shot in LA last month.
And Cher Lloyd has revealed she wouldn’t be averse to recording with the One Direction boys. “We’d have to, you know, talk about all sorts of issues… But I think it would work you know. Get a rapper on your track and you’re buzzin’ aren’t ya?” she said. “Gives the song a bit of a boost.”
The Swagger Jagger star was said to be touched that the guys had given her so much love on Twitter, encouraging all their fans to support her single, which is on track to top the charts on Sunday.
One Direction have said that they will be a different boyband to JLS, believing they are not as cool as their X Factor boyband pals.
Harry, Louis, Liam, Zayn and Niall spoke about the competition in the boyband game to We Love Pop and revealed that they were unlikely to be doing dance routines to their new single ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ when it is released next month.
“We wouldn’t be as cool as them. We’d trip over our shoelaces. But I don’t want us to be choreographed and matchy-matchy anyway.” said Louis.
Adding: “We’re not trying to be something we’re not. We’re like the guys who you go to school with. And I don’t think other boybands are like that.”
‘What Makes You Beautiful’ will be released in September and receives it’s first ever play this Wednesday (Aug 10) on Radio 1.
1D hopes to have same success as Cher Lloyd

One Direction have exclusively told MTV.co.uk that they hope to emulate the success of their pal, Cher Lloyd.
The boyband, who finished one place above Lloyd on The X Factor last year, claim that they hope when they release their first single, it does as well as Cher’s debut Swagger Jagger – which is currently No.1 in the charts.
When we asked the 1D about Lloyd’s success in the Official UK Singles countdown, teen heartthrob Zayn Malik revealed: “It’s a bit of a wake up call, you kind of realise how successful you can be off the back of X Factor.”
“She’s off the same show as us and she’s doing so well for herself and if we get a little bit of that success, we will be doing pretty well.”
Zayn’s bandmate Liam agreed: “It brings it to life that we are are going to be releasing a single in a few weeks. It’s just been us out there recording and now we are actually going to be releasing something.”
Speaking of whether they still have contact with Cher, Harry Styles stated: “I spoke to her the other week, just to say that I liked the video. It’s very abstract. It’s cool and it’s a great song.”
His bandmate Louis Tomlinson added: “It’s a bit like the Black Eyed Peas” with Styles then claiming: “It’s still weird to hear her on the radio though isn’t it?”
Harry had better get used to hearing his own song, as the lads recently announced that their debut single, What Makes You Beautiful, will be released on 11th September.
“Some of the lyrics were about 40-year-old men pouring their hearts out,” says Harry Styles, who at 17, can’t imagine ever being quite that old.
“We said ‘no’ to Simon over at least one song,” continues Louis Tomlinson. “But he’d much prefer us to be honest. Despite what people think, he doesn’t want to be surrounded by lots of ‘yes’ men.
“We get quite a lot of freedom and a say in what we do. Once we found our sound, we told Simon we wanted to keep it really young.”
Louis, 19, adds: “Simon wants us to put a stamp on our music in our own way, so he appreciates our input.” Well, that’s a relief.
Zayn Malik. 18, says: “Simon is hilarious. At X Factor, behind the curtains just before we came on, he’d talk non-stop about football and girls.
My mum’s fave, Liam Payne, 17, adds: “When the Black Eyed Peas were on, he wanted us to see who could pull Fergie. We have such a laugh with him.”
“Harry’s into them!” laughs Niall Senior.
“He gave us carrot sticks, too,” says Liam. “I’m not a fan of carrot sticks but it’s Simon, so I thought I had to take one. Harry loves them too.”
Do you, Harry? “There’s nothing better than a nice pitta bread, some carrot sticks and a pot of hummus,” he chirrups.
