Gaga clearly sold more with her generic BTW album but Avril has only released one single there, 'What The Hell'. Smile was not released there out of respect to the disaster. Avril stopped all releases there out of respect and postponed her tour dates. Avril LOVES Japan. She is not losing her market. What The Hell was more successful than Girlfriend in Japan. Also Avril's album release week was the week of the disaster and Avril still sold that much albums. People forget that Avril released the week of the tsunamis and record sales there dropped drastically because of that for 4 weeks and it was followed by no second single. WYWH hopefully will be released there. Either way, the next album will sell twice as much as Goodbye Lullaby. Goodbye Lullaby being the 2nd best selling western album under those circumstances show how strong her fanbase in Japan is. Gaga can't compare. Sorry.

Generic? avril stan, can u please name any album that has been released recently that makes you claim that BTW the album is generic? don't try to make claim such as 'btw is generic' with your stan hat without the tea. it makes you sound mad as hell
and gaga can't compare? stop with your ifs, the final numbers defy your theory and that is all that matters. right now, no western artist can compare with ms. Gaga in Japan. Sorry.

If she is more famous and successful than GaGa why her album is not selling more? i understand the situation, but if she is that big in Japan she should had sold more records this year just sayin'! I mean yes Avril had sold more albums in her career but she is being around since 2002 lol, GaGa is the new girl, Avril don't want to show up to Japan because she wants to show respect?, i mean is not about respect if you really want japanesse people to feel respected and supported you should go to their country, let them know that you care, encourage people to visit Japan and do something for them, help them in some way, anyway WTH is not bigger than Girlfriend, and Born This Way the song has sold 1.000.000 legal downloads this year, you really call Born This Way generic? really, i mean at least GaGa tried to do something different and experimental, something that "other girls" had never done in their careers and will never dare to do, and we are talking about this year, and this year *2011* Born This Way is the best selling female album in Japan and the best selling western album, get it?

Uh, she did sell a lot of albums in Japan this year. That's kinda the point of this entire thread, Avril and Gaga are the biggest selling western artists there atm.
You do realize the earthquakes happened just before she was about to tour there right? She prolly couldn't have performed there if she wanted to. And she's already rescheduled new dates and gone there again since. Not to mention the charity she got started for the country. She's STILL talking about the disaster.
And Gaga may have sold more this year (with her risky yet still dance-y) album, but Avril's feat is still more impressive, considering her less than stellar promotion, her four year absence, and the fact that her album is primarily a bunch of mid-tempo acoustic tracks. Does this one year change the fact that Avril is still overall a bigger/more loved artist in Japan? No.

The delusion in this thread is so big, so is more important to be way more famous in Japan, but is not important to have the best selling album, what's the point of being bigger and more famous if you can not sell more album than the other girls!? the logic says that if you sell more is because you are having more impact and you have more relevance, this aint 2007 anymore

Yes i understand the factors and the reasons why Avril couldn't go to Japan is fine that she is helping Japan and thatshe cares, but c'mon can you just accept the fact that GaGa sold more this year, i mean the numbers don't lie, they are both huge i know but is just that some stans sound so delusional.....

Yup well I'm not denying her numbers, I'm just pointing out that people can't say that Avril is less popular/no longer popular in Japan based off ONE album and the fact that just ONE artist sold more than her, because there are reasons for that.

Yes but this is not because this year she sold less that se has lost this market, she's still #1 maybe one day Gaga will be the favourite but not yet.

Yes but i never said overall i said this year, and both girls can rule the charts, and i like Avril i have a collection of all of her hits and favorite songs so i'm not hater, but the problem is that some stans just want to deny GaGa's success and that's why and replying! but everything cool!

Ok i don't want GaGa to be the only biggest western act in Japan, they both can be successful, the thing is that some stans are denying GaGa's achievements this year that's all!

True, but that was to be expected. Also, what Gaga is doing now; Avril has already done years before.

No one is denying Gaga's success. She's having great success in Japan for one year. This doesn't make her bigger than Avril now or ever in Japan. It makes BTW a better selling album for GL and there is a really good reason GL sold only 380,000 units in Japan (yes extremely low figure for Avril in Japan, was expecting 1 million by now). That disaster brought Avril's usually stable in numbers in Japan down to 30,000 a week which ruined a few weeks of stable 100,000 numbers that were predicted by everyone before the album was released and before the tsunami. Last thing people cared about was Avril's new album at that point, and rightly so. Even Avril pulled all promo there. Avril's numbers would be doubled by now, nearly tripled if her team had a full force promo campaign like usual years. There was an article stating that Avril was backing out of Japan for a while in respect of her fans. She didnt even release 'Smile' there.
Anyway, Gaga is doing great This IS one album. Avril has over 4.5 million albums sold there alone though, and the 5th record will double GL sales without a doubt, so no need to gloat Gaga stans. You came in here as fast as you could the minute Gaga started selling 3 months after the crisis with full promo and 3 singles. Good for her But the success is NOT comparable.
