I'm really loving the idea of dark dance songs, mixed with dubstep, mixed with uptempo but dark ballads for this next album. Nothing slow. Mid-tempo is as slow as we can possible go.

I agree.
And no matter how fake or chart-obsessed this may sound, I want this album to be full of hits. She needs one more huge era before I think she can start taking risks safely.

I mean I don't want her to be completely dark, but I don't want her to be completely bubblegum or generic lyrically. I would like for her to be inspired by her previous work, but take bits and pieces from it and sonify on them. I just want a different image and everything. I want a breath of fresh air. When you release an album every year you can't have anything sounding similar. I do see where you're coming from.

I wouldn't expect anything island sounding or any ballads. Her US record still have a lot of power even if in reality she's bigger internationally.

I agree that she needs to bring something new to the table.
However, I think she's still in a rocky place right now and she needs one more era of hits before she can start taking huge risks again, musically. Because of the fact that we all miss the dark image and I think she does, too, a GGGB-type image and sound would be perfect. It's the right balance between radio-ready and friendly and risky and edgy.

I think this album will be kinda risky, which I am excited about. But if this album isn't too risky, then I think the 8th album will be when Rihanna starts getting risky again.
If the Def Jam contract is true, I doubt that Rihanna's new label would want her taking risks on her first album with them. So I think that another safe-ish album is what we will get and then the 8th album will be risky.

Why would she leave def jam? She's the queen of the label. They are completely focused on her. If she says jump they say how high? She'd be very blessed to get that treatment anywhere else. It's the same with gaga at interscope and Katy at Capitol.

I loved the GGGB image. The Rated R image seemed like a more extreme and risque version of that. I wonder if she'll tone down the provocativeness of her image this era. She's seemed more casual and laid back lately.

I would love for Rihanna to re-sign with Def Jam! I didn't even think that she would be able to do that. That's exciting!

Of course she's able to do that. And while I really don't want her to, I can't think of any other label that she could sign with and be treated well by.

If Rihanna is doing her job as an evolving pop artist, none of her albums should be a 2.0 There should be no GGGB 2.0, no Rated R 2.0, no Loud 2.0, it should be something entirely different, that's distinguished as a separate album with it's own image, not something comparable to her past work in the sense that she's trying to simulate a past sound or image. because she never does, so you shouldn't expect her to now.

I totally agree. Madonna isn't where she is now because she repeated things or just ...slightly updated things. She's where she's at because she completely changed it up time and time again. In pop music..re-invention is KEY. Rihanna does that better than any of the other girls in the game. How will Rih ever have her "Ray of Light" moment if she keeps going back...

Even though Def Jam makes mistakes, the compassionate side of me really doesn't want Rihanna to leave them. Ever. They have done so much for her and they are like her business family. I really do love Def Jam, tbh.
