Sorry! Don't mean to hijack this thread but noticed that this question was unanswered.
I don't mean to be patronising but I'm going to explain it from basics otherwise it'll just be really confusing.
When you're infected with an organism, your immune system and its cells produces antibodies that are specific to that organism (antibodies are basically a chemical // a protein) which basically play a significant role in fighting that organism. So yes, your immune cells should be very active right now in developing an immune response to the hep. B vaccine.
Infection with HIV is no different: your immune system will produce HIV-specific antibodies in its attempt to fight the virus. An STD screen for HIV involves testing for these antibodies. So, no HIV infection = no HIV antibodies.
They only look at your white cells and whether or not they are depleted (as HIV kills them) once you are given the diagnosis, following a positive result for these antibodies.
In short and in theory: no, the hep B vaccine (or any other vaccine / concurrent infection) should have no effect on a HIV test. In reality, it may flag up a false positive but any positive result is always double checked before a diagnosis of HIV is given = you will never be incorrectly diagnosed. But the current 4th generation of diagnostic tests are highly accurate anyway from a first-round testing point of view.

Excellent thread, guys. Very informative, educational, and actually always on topic.
I applaud all of you for being so open about your status and proactive about educating others on a subject that is usually surrounded by a lot of stigma and misinformation
Wishing you great health, lots of support, and love

Ehh some virus look like HIV and if you take a rapid test will show up. So if you just had mono, viral cold etc it could trigger a false positive. But most likely, thtey would do another test to be certain. I known people with false positives.

For those who are scared and nervous about your status, get tested, it's the only way to put your mind at ease.
The fear of being at risk of HIV infection could lead to HIV anxiety disorder, your body could even develop multiple symptoms if you were in an extremely anxious state.
Again, get tested!
If you are negative, then everything is fine.
If your results turn out positive, you could get treated before it worsens.

No, at a low point in my life, with drugs, alcohol and far too much partying, I ended up at a sauna and was so intoxicated that I slept with someone - without a condom. It was my choice, and one that I could have avoided if I were sober.
Edit: I then stopped partying, taking drugs btw.
When I got the result, I blamed myself for several years, until I got a dog, and she became my best friend. She helped me love again. Unfortunately four weeks ago, she died in a fire at my house (I wasn't indoors, don't ask how it started, wasn't my fault). Sadie, died as peacefully as she could but I made a vow when I buried her that my life would change, in respect of the life she gave me - one that I thought was useless. I then stopped crying, and stopped hating myself for the sake of one mistake.
I'm currently rebuilding my life having accepted the circumstances and tragedies that made me the man I am today. I am happy, and I survived. Ready to start my life again and not let this take over my life.
My story. Thanks for reading (Sorry if this is corny )

I am so so sorry to read this ... you are so strong. If I was you IDK if I could still survive

There is a reason why it can't be passed through kissing, sweat or spit and that is because the virus doesn't last too much out of the person's body. Once it reaches opened air, it dies in 5 or 10 seconds. Yes, you may have an open wound on your mouth and the person you're kissing may be positive but if you open your mouth to talk to the person after the kiss or to breath, the virus will die in seconds. There are zero probabilities to contract HIV through kissing. You may have studied, but you're not a doctor or something.

This. Oral sex is considered as low risk sexual encounter unlike anal sex which is considered as high risk. There's no documented cases whereby people get HIV through oral sex even though medical practitioners all agree that you can get HIV via oral sex albeit the risk is too low. However, take note that you can get syphillis and other STDs through oral sex that's why don't swallow the semen. Always spit and make sure you have healthy oral before engaging in oral sex.

We advise people with HIV not to perform oral sex without protection but no because it may be contagious, it is because the HIV- person may have an infection and could pass it to the patient with the virus, which could be very risky. There are other STDs and they're very contagious and worse than HIV despite them being able to be cured.

Also, if you want to get tested, make sure you abstain from sex for at least 3 months before you get tested. HIv antibodies take up to 3 months before they show up in your body so it's very important for you to refrain from having sex for at least 3 months so the results wouldn't be false negative.
It's very hard to tell whether you have HIV or not during the first month of getting the infection, but early symptoms include fever-like symptoms such as fever, chills, sweating at night, rash and gastrointestinal symptoms. So, if you recently engaged in high-risk sex with random strangers, make sure you get tested after 3-4 months since your last sex activity.
Also OP, can you tell me did you experience any symptoms of HIV during the first month of getting contacted the virus? Can you tell me what are the symptoms because it's very hard to tell at early stage?

If you could get HIV through kissing, do you have any idea how many people would have HIV??? Some researchers actually believe that human saliva contains enzymes that deactivate the virus when it's in your mouth.

Getting hiv from oral sex is the same way. In NYC if you try to tell them you caught it from a BJ, they will look at you with a side eye. The health officials told me its theoretically possible to transmit from oral but they have been unable to verify this. It's one case where theory and reality differ.

I was 18 back in the days.
Can you imagine how ****ing terrible It is to fall in love again, knowing you have to tell that person that you're HIV+?
When to say It? Waiting for them to fall in love too and piss them off? Or telling It from the very first date and get the boot before the dessert or the movie is over?
How will they react?
How will your mom and dad react?
Should I tell anyone? Will someone ever be able to truly love me?
Those are just a few questions that controlled my daily life for like a year after I got It.
It is pure hell in the beginning.
What It could do to your body, physically, is mostly a topic later in the process.

Sis, I hope everything will be good for you. You shouldn't worry much if your partner is not a promiscuous person or a drug user but get tested anyway

Love this thread. Thanks for all the information!
Lord I really should go get another test, I used protection with this guy in Bali but there's always a tiny risk. Better to be safe than sorry of course!

I was sexually assaulted in another country and due to that, I went out and got tested without telling anyone I had been molested. Well being in a middle eastern country, its really hard to get STD tests and results back fast. So i wanted a month to get the results and they were positive. This was right before thanksgiving and I was devastated for a bit. I told a few of my coworkers and my boss what was going on and they decided to make sure I got back to the States as fast as possible and immediately put me on treatment. As for my partner, I told them and they weren't really fazed. They were just really sad for me. We aren't together though anymore but he is one of the strongest members of my support system

This is so sad. I can't imagine what it would feel like to go through that.
Everyone in this thread is so brave for sharing their stories and educating us all.

I didn't know this. I always thought if two HIV+ people had bareback sex they would be fine.
