Far, far, far, far... far from it. Vocal range isn't everything. Her voice is boring and doesn't sound unique. No sexiness in it, no emotion. She just doesn't do much for me. Sorry.
There's the problem.

I've never understood this? Is it because I'm a singer/musician myself, so I understand what it takes to achieve the things that Beyonce and others like Mariah, Whitney, Aretha, Ella Fitzgerald, Cecelia Bertoil, do with their voices??
This logic that having an interesting tone/color and knack for emotive vocals is all that's needed to be GREAT is simply beyond me; I'll never understand! It's like saying that if I purchase a Fazioli Brunei for $400,000 and started banging incoherent melodies on the keys, does that make me the world's greatest pianist because of the natural color/quality of the note?? Does it matter that what I'm doing makes no sense, musically??

It doesn't but it's the only completely subjective aspect along with emotional interpretation so people will cling to it as it cannot be debated. Either that or they'll just line up to end up looking like that one Kelly Clarkson stan trying to shut down sound and objective comparative analyses of Bey's vocals based on actual vocal pedagogy (from none other than another Kelly Clarkson stan that acknowledged preference for Kelly) with a bunch of gibberish and tired smilies. Again and again and again...
Even still after all that you have people scrambling for meaningless videos and charts that have nothing to do with the discussion at hand and have yet to bring any objective points to refute or even match post after post of objective, skill based assessment supporting Bey. It's really crazy how far people will go and desperate they will get not even just to support someone else, but to simply deny Bey. Like, I just...

You seem to know your ****, so i'm going to ask you. What do you think of Nicole Scherzinger as a vocalist and is she on par with Beyonce?

Exactly. I could see if they disagreed and then addressed the points that seemingly lack the validity (in their eyes), but they go on a tangent about how somone else's tone tugs on their heart strings...And I'm like, what does your personal preference has to do with your fave's abysmal vocal ability!

Oh honey, thank you, but I'm not personally a vocal student or expert -- I just like reading the opinions and commentary of serious students/experts of vocal pedagogy. My comment was based on a half decade of seeing debates involving Bey's abilities go the exact same way -- people with deep knowledge and understanding of proper vocal technique giving post after post after post of objective points assessing vocal musicianship only to watch people dance around those with only subjective posts and never addressing anything objectively. Anyway, I know there are a few here that actually are serious vocal students/experts of vocal pedagogy (Chimier, Bmezy, bzblaner, ClarksonSlays, P!nkism etc) that may be able to help you with a proper analysis of Nicole's abilities.

girl please I could easily put y'all to shame. Unlike delusional stans I am not threatened by anything you wannabe know it alls have to say. Enjoy your bland no emotion fav who is not confident enough to sing live at the same event as my fav when even a pre recorded track can't compare to my favorites live voice (embarrassing). I'm grown I'm not a kid looking for approval from anyone on this site full of kids

If you could, you would; however, you didn't and you won't. Have a nice evening!

Simple. Try to hear me out, its all subjective in the end. I saw some earlier posts in this thread about Beyonce's vocal abilities and things she has going for her which other singers don't. She is definitely skilled and from your musical background I can understand you admire that, but I think the fact is that most people, definitely outside of ATRL, just don't care about some of these things Beyonce has going for her above others. Im almost sure the majority doesn't even know what people are talking about when listing Beyonce's vocal fortes. They just know Beyonce is a skilled singer. But so are most other vocalists named in this thread. Thats why I think your comparison to "banging incoherent melodies" falls a bit flat. You have a point which is definitely true, but its a little black and white IMO. I see Kelly Clarkson is brought up a lot here, she's definitely a more than adequate option as well.
That being said, as much as I admire Beyonce's vocal technique, I think she lacks certain other aspects. This is totally subjective of course. To me she lacks both emotion and depth, plus I don't find her tone is that appealing, so basically the things you are talking about. Therefore, to me, she fails to make a connection. Often I find some artists can bridge a gap between music solely for entertainment purposes and music that touches your soul. To me, that is what both music and talent is about, and from that point of view I can totally understand why some people here don't regard Beyonce as the most vocally talented artist. I think for a lot of people a certain tone or emotion can either make or break it, as much as you say you don't understand.
I do not think there is a universal answer or agreement to what vocally talented means. I certainly havent seen any receipts on that. Thats also why I find some of these comments (especially regarding Christina Aguilera and Gaga) a bit ruthless and uncalled for. To some people being born with a great instrument or tone (Christina) means vocal talent, while others think its just happenstance. Some people think skill is talent (Beyonce), others think its merely dedication and work ethic. Its too easy to dismiss certain singers of their talent just because it doesn't fit your box.
Yes, and anyone saying otherwise or listing a stupid response like Gaga clearly does not understand anything about vocalists. Beyoncé at her best is insane. Technically speaking she is on point. You might not like her tone or the sound of her voice (the lack of depth and emotion argument is also dumb though) but you can't deny something that is clearly true.

" - And that's completely fine; I'm not expecting most of you to know/understand the full extent of vocal pedagogy and how it works and that's fine. I also get that there's a lot of people that don't "like" Beyonce's voice. It's cool, I actually prefer a few artists to Beyonce myself based solely on tonal color/musicianship (i.e Brandy). However, I can still acknowledge that Beyonce is a better vocalist, technically based off of SCIENTIFIC evidence that supports the claim. The problem with most people here is they take their opinion or preference and then try to anchor it as if had a factual foundation..in the same way that you can with objective quantitive traits that can actually MEASURED. This is what annoys me and others that share the same viewpoint. It's okay to say that Beyonce is technically the best in this generation, vocally, while still stating your preference for another artist.
Example for Kelly Clarkson
It is a FACT that Beyonce has better intonation than Kelly
It is a FACT that Beyonce's voice is much more developed in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th 6th octave
It is a FACT that Beyonce's voice is more coordinated (agility/support/stamina)
It is a FACT that Beyonce's head voice is more refined
It is a FACT that Beyonce is more agile in all parts of the voice
It is a FACT that Beyonce's vocal ability lends itself to more versatility
It is a Fact that Beyonce shows more interpretive wit/musicianship via rearrangements/vocal composing/stacking-layering/improv
these are objective traits that can be measured or analyzed and because of that an assesment can be formed that is grounded in truth. That said, one can say Beyonce is objectively the better vocalist; it doesn't matter, though because I don't like her voice/music/delivery
However you can't claim Kelly is better vocalist when there is more evidence that discredits this notion more than it supports it.
Music also has a scientific structure..and because of that, a vocal hypothesis can be drawn ..
It's okay that you don't share the same sentiment..
