Right? Just friggin accept the cover and move on
It honestly has grown on me. It's my least favorite, but I respect it. If she feels that was the appropriate cover, then that is enough for me. If we later find out she didn't really care and just used any random cover, then I'd be annoyed, because I know she's better than that.
She will be on bbc 1 radio again soon. Idk why or for what, probably nothing special, but yeah more promo!

So is What Kind of Man the official lead single? Or is it a "What the Water Gave Me" type sitch?

No one knows, but I do believe it is the official lead single. Of course I could be wrong, but it seems that is case. Of course there will be promo singles , I'm sure. Apparently Wueen Of Peace is the next song

Hmm. I see. I do like it, but I really hope it's not the best/most immediate song they have to offer from the album. It's no Shake It Out.
Then again it's easily better than Kiss With a Fist, Lungs's lead.

Just listened to her on BBC Radio 1 with Zane Lowe, it was great she really spoke about the album, sounds like they really tried to take things in a different direction for this album, she consciously tried to not do everything constantly anthemic with soaring choruses and crescendos.
she wanted to move away from the "wall of sound" of ceremonials... sounds like this album is going to be great, its great when artist spend a lot of time forcing themselves to grow
she also said ship to wreck and queen of peace are good examples of where the producer made her keep it more low key and just let the quality of the song stand by itself

I'm really excited for Queen of Peace, I think it's going to be her second single, because they shot something in Mexico or whatever, in the water that was like a cave or something, but it was really pretty, and those scenes weren't used for What Kind of Man video.

Yas her descriptions of STW and QOP. So excited, I love her description of the sound of the album. Glad Markus was tough on her. Even though she's never released something bad or even close to subpar, I feel like her producers in the past probably let her do whatever she wanted, which is great, but it's also nice to see Markus be a little hard on her

Sounds like Ship To Wreck is one of her faves, she's talked about it a lot. It's more about the song, she said, and less about the sound and production. Markus told her "a good songs stands on its own without everything else," so apparently this is one to look out for. She also said something similar about Queen Of Peace.
Which Witch apparently is very typical Florence: big drums, anthemic chorus, chorale singing, but it didn't make the album, because it was "too" Florence. There is a line in Mother about clouds, and STW is sort of influenced by water, but that's it for her normal water influence and metaphors.
The album is less metaphoric and more honest, genuine, direct, and personal. Which is what a lot of fans have always wanted. Still poetic and meaningful, just more personal to her. She says again she tried to strip this album down, but everything started coming together and it's not exactly stripped down, but it's not Ceremonials either. It's a refined, evolvd version of herself. Sounds like she is very proud of it, maybe even her favorite album this far, and it's very important to her, because it got her through hard times and it explains the crazy, hectic ups and downs she experienced this past year better than her spoken words could.
So. ****ing. Excited.

According to the interview, Queen of Peace is very laid back. And as you already said, the whole album isn't as bombastic as Ceremonials with the exception of Which Witch.
But she seems to really like the new direction

I'm stoked for "Mother" and "Ship to Wreck". Have no idea why but those sound kinda interesting to me. Anyways, judging from WKOM, I think HBHBHB is like a mix of "Lungs" & "Ceremonials", it has that dark orchestral sound together with that early-indie-rock vibe to it. Also, loving the simplicity of the cover. Wonder why "+ the Machine" isn't written on it
