I loved the episode. Only Nikita manages to make me forget that this episode is supposed to be a procedural filler with no influence on the main storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
ugh i spent all night promoting Nikita because the first episode got less than 1m viewers, i hope it wont get cancelled after season 3, i need more Nikita in my life
tl;dr they believe that based on past precedent we're almost certainly getting one more season for syndication purposes, so no need to worry about the ratings this year.

Nope, last night was the season finale of ANTM and a special was aired as a replacement for Nikita. The good news is that the show will return on its previous timeslot at 8PM, which could give a ratings boost= more chances for a possible fourth season.

No it's the winter finale. Every show is split into three halves. The Fall/Winter period which contains up to 10 episodes of the new season and ends with a cliffhanger. Then there's the mid-season break that occurs after the February sweeps. And finally, there's the season finale, in which a show leads all the strings together to result in some kind of conclusion, but also opening one or the other door for future seasons, e.g. another cliffhanger.
