Choose The Album, Then a Song 7: VOTE! [R1]
Welcome to the seventh season of ATRL original game
Choose The Album, Then a Song
The first round is here! Can you believe it?
The first round is probably the heart of your game... Why? A little mistake may cause you to lose the game beause starting low is not really nice. Remember the chart is CUMULATIVE which means you need to be consistent.
This round was prepared as an introduction and I am sure everyone is excited to know a few details on your album!
T H E R U L E S
For six seasons this game had its ups and downs and to make sure the 'downs' part won't happen again, I had to create a set of rules. So if you're signing up, this means you agree to:
1. DURING THE VOTING PERIOD, YOU'LL HAVE TO CAST YOUR VOTE (OTHERWISE YOU'RE PENALIZED);
2. YOU CAN NOT ASK FANS/FRIENDS TO SAVE YOUR ALBUM;
3. THE JUDGES HAVE TO BE FAIR. IF YOU DETECT BIASNESS OR UNFAIRNESS, LET ME KNOW.

When I read you need the most likeable song, the first thing which came in to my mind was the fan favorite "Bucket List." Why? This song is full of positive energy and makes the listener smile which is the most important thing if you're an artist. The message of the song is about us: LIFE and LOVE. (Only capital letters.) Don't hesitate to do your own thing, life is shorter than you think: "We don't know how much time left we got left in this world/This beautiful world." Make your dreams come true and live them. Do you want to climb a mountain? Do It! Do you want to visit the North Pole? Do it! Because you CAN do it. Do you want somebody to love? What would you do for love? When I heard this song for the very first time, I was like: "Oh wow. So catchy, so original and so true." I love "Bucket List" because I think it is a pure perfection and caresses my heart all the time. This song has a soul. I hope you'll feel this way while you're listening to this song. Get ready for the endless Nelly power SPIRIT!

The most bulletproof song from „My Everything“ is definitely a worldwide hit „Problem“
The song has everything that is needed to be universally liked these days. It‘s catchy, funky, and it takes us sort of to 90’s, because of that style and everything. Also Iggy is a big force these days too, so it even more makes song loved by loads of people. The song has a lot of attitude, urban elements, catchy whispers from Big Sean and all those elements that are just needed for a perfect song, that appeals to everyone. Overall in my opinion this song really is bulletproof, and the popularity of it clearly proves that this song is universally liked.

3. VDK - Little Mix - Salute: Salute

A Command. Nothing says Power, Respect, Feminism, and FIRE like Salute does. Aptly put as the title track and first song on the record, Salute sets the tone for the rest of the album. Pure raw talent, palpable energy, and anthemic melodies…that’s what Salute(the album) is all about and this song gives you a firsthand look at the world you are about to enter. The song has a battle cry kind of sound and the hey-ho’s at the beginning gives the song the right amount of tribal and traditional battlefield sound it needs. Little Mix is looking for recruits, and they are ready to use all the power they have as women to get these recruits to break down the double standards which are referred to on more parts of Salute (the album). Funny enough this round is titled “Bulletproof”…Little Mix is breaking defenses and there is NOTHING you can do about it. Get your killer heels, sneakers, pumps or just lace up your boots. Representing all the women SALUTE, SALUTE!!!

It has that feel-good, yet energetic vibe that makes you fall in love with it from first listen. "I don't wanna be alone forever, but I can be tonight. I don't wanna be alone forever, but I love gypsy life" - Gypsy, therefore, is my pick for this round. It's the most universally likeable and appealing song on the album.

The song is a great pop song. Here, Tove Lo narrates a typical feeling about love.
It's one of the most relatable songs in the album.
The song has a blooming production, and a dark pop vibe, as the rest of the album, that's why I think it would be universally likeable, it's relatable and captures the vibe of the entire album. Another thing, it's catchy so it gets stuck in your mind easily. |

7. Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Nobody But You

An artist like Kimbra can be somewhat polarizing sometimes, especially if you consider a song like "90s Music", the lead single of The Golden Echo. But when she uses her pop sensibility while still staying true to herself, she can hit gold. This is demonstrated perfectly on the John Legend penned track "Nobody But You", an upbeat love song which has Kimbra proclaiming that she wants "nobody but you" to her potential lover. The track combines Soul and R&B to make an irresistible piece of music. With an energetic vocal performance and in incredibly catchy chorus, this is Kimbra at her best, and most straight forward. But of course this wouldn't be a true Kimbra song without a little bit of experimenting, which is shown by the 2 extra mini songs at the end, the first which has her repeating the "same refrain" and the second which has a beautiful piano melody. All in all, it is a song that could appeal to anybody, whether it be a hardcore music listener or a causal one, a pop listener or someone more into experimental music.

Lyrically the song is quite well written but when we take into account the intended message it's elevated to new heights. This clever turn of tongue and cheek can be appreciated even if you know nothing about her music and only her celebrity while the inclusion of a hippop sound from a former country star has opened doors for new and old fans alike to appreciate the incredibly catchy and endearing Blank Space while enticing them to wonder what other incredible things are in store.

The round's theme is about choosing a song that is universally likable that represents the album well. Under My Skin is an album that shows Avril's darker, vulnerable and personal side but the true gem of this album is it's ability to make its songs relatable to everyone. And the perfect choice to represent the characteristics of this album is the powerful ballad, "Nobody's Home"
Nobody's Home excellently represented the album effortlessly due to its brilliant combination of heartfelt lyrics, outstanding production & stunning vocals which makes any listener feel its impact & be mesmerized with it. It showcases Avril's vulnerability as a person who's just like anyone of us that experienced pain, betrayal & heartbreak. It boasts an powerful story-telling accompanied with Avril's angelic voice that sounds so pure, raw & honest. Under My Skin is ageless and
Nobody's Home truly helped the album to be well-loved and remembered by everyone who have listened to it.

10. holyground - Lorde - Pure Heroine: Team

Lyrically, this song is quintessential Lorde material. Her lyrical matter is mostly about being a teenager, but she talks about it in a mature and sophisticated manner. In Team, she talks about her band of friends, their dynamics and basically all the "cool" things they do. Even if you're not that young, it's not hard to relate or aspire to this song, as Lorde manages to talk about the energy of being young in such a skillful manner that it evokes youth and a carefree feeling in you without feeling that it's childish.
Musically, it's slightly less darker than her usual stuff. It sounds more modern and the beats are heavier. It's not difficult to find yourself dancing, or at least grooving to this. The elevation in sound during the chorus is euphoric and yet effortlessly catchy.
Basically, this is a high class teenage anthem with pop music sensibilities, yet complex in it's subject even though it's talking about being teenagers. It's lyrical content transcends age group and the song is catchy, making it the perfect song that can be loved by many.

It is the only moment of the Bionic era that the GP showed appreciation to, it's a cult classic for ballad lovers and it's the best and most innovative thing to come from that album : YOU LOST ME
You Lost Me is the core of the original concept of Bionic ; organic, natural and left field. It is stripped from all the cliches that Christina haters detest in the lyrics and vocal deliveries of her previous ballads. It's simple, spine tingling and tear jerking. Her soft vocals make the most effortless impact over the minimal production.
Despite stalling at #25 of the Bubbling Under chart and receiving less airplay than a Keri Hilson third single, it's her most critically acclaimed single since 2006 and the video is her 5th most viewed on VEVO. Fans, haters and even the critics who trashed the overall album, they all agree that this song is special. None of them bought it, but they all love it

The girls have always expressed their love of different genre's, and this song perfectly blends several different genre's together, while also remaining true the their signature urban/pop sound. It's also a good indicator of the album DK3 in general, seeing that the girls don't want to be labeled as just one genre. Being the most diverse song, All In a Day's Work shows the range of genre's and lyrics that the overall sound of the album will have. And it's a BOP! It will get stuck in your head! It may not be something that would slay the radio chart because of how different it is, but that doesnt take away from the likability of the song. It's the standout track on the album based just on how unique it is. It's also an empowerment song, telling anyone that not only can you take care of your significant other, but you can take care of your business as well.

Perhaps it may be the most predictable choice, but Tinashe's collaboration with ScHoolboy Q, "2 On" reigns and is a great choice for this round. The track was popular amongst the general public; despite having no previous proper single, Tinashe held the biggest Urban single of the year and was also used in a great light on Pop radio. In addition to radio listeners stanning, critics also gave the single positive ratings. For example, Idolator gave the "club thumper" a wonderful critique. As for the track itself, it gives people an easy, breezy type of party feel ("Live fast, die young / That's my choice") that encourages people to get out there and dance. in contrast to the rest of 'Aquarius', I felt that "2 On" is more appealing in a commercial sense, as well as being one of the most solid tracks on the album. In fact, ATRL agrees with me, as "2 On" battles out in the Finale of the 'Aquarius' Album Survivor! While there were quite a few great choices, I just felt that "2 On" is an amazing, attractive and solid song that taps into the feel of 'Aquarius' and has been proven to be received well.

The video in itself has become a cultural landmark for Spears with the red leather suit, the titanic reference, the dancing, and overall mass appeal the video had stamped itself in pop culture. The song fully represents the power Britney Spears' early career had on everyone who listened, and if released today could sound as fresh as it did back then, making her still universally appealing.

In my opinion, I Get Lonely is one of the more accessible songs on The Velvet Rope and is also an album highlight. Janet describes the track as "bittersweet" as it is about losing a lover, only to end up yearning for their love. Admittedly, this song is what really got me interested in this album, and as a result, in Janet's music. I just fell in love with the track on the first listen and decided to take a listen to the entire album. As soon as the song starts playing, the listener is greeted by a thumping bass and a harmonized chorus, only to transition into the first verse where a vulnerable and almost devastated Janet softly coos to her ex-lover about the pain he put her through with his departure. The harmonies along with the smooth, fresh, and sexy production just make the song absolutely irresistible. I feel like this would be perfect for this round since it's extremely loved by both Janet stans and critics and the song is very relatable with its message of heartbreak and begging for your lover to come back.

When it comes to sound, it's that catchy-pop Disney tune that children fall in love with and adolescents bop to in secret. The guitars/violins in this song along with the drums and claps makes it hard to believe this is a simple song for a Disney show!
The lyrics are really easy to understand, considering the demographic is is targeted towards, but they're not too simple that they feel childish. Anyone can read/listen and instantly understand and relate.
The message is my favorite part.
"If I'm not doing so well, why be so hard on myself?"
Although this IS considered for children, it does NOT sugarcoat anything.
It gives children the hard reality that you will NOT be good at everything, you will fail.. A lot. And you need to accept that fact.
At the same time, we as adults constantly forget this gem of an advice/fact. We are not (and will never be) perfect. But that doesn't mean you should never at least try. And if that fails, don't be so hard on yourself.

18. Prismatic - Katy Perry - PRISM: Roar

The song I have chosen is the lead single off PRISM, Roar.
Let's face it, Roar is defnitely one of the GP's favorite songs this decade. Roar is a power pop song with an explosive sing-along chorus and features glam rock elements. It is a self-empowerment anthem with lyrics such as "You held me down but I got up" and "I am champion and you're gonna hear me roar", making the song easily accessible to a vast audience comprising various age groups. Everyone ranging from kids to teenagers to adults can connect to the message of the song easily because no doubt everyone had their ups and downs in their life. It is no wonder why Roar is the most universally likeable considering the song's infectious beats and easy-to-follow lyrics. After a year of its release, Roar has made its way to become the next stadium staple following other staples like "Eye of the Tiger" and "We Will Rock You" and is still getting consistent recurrent radio spins and music videos.
Roar IS the most bulletproof song of PRISM, the other tracks don't stand a chance.

19. MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Call Me Maybe

With an infectious beat that is reminiscent of the theme song to The Sims games, and a chorus that gets stuck in your head, it's no surprise that Call Me Maybe was as huge as it was, and thus the most universally likable song off Kiss. From little kids to Harvard baseball players, this song was something you could have fun with and not feel embarrassed (unless you're Mr. Link). Furthermore, this song also gave Carly her persona for the Kiss era and beyond; a sweet, innocent modern day princess (which explains why she re-recorded Part of Your World and played Cinderella on Broadway). As a result, this song is the perfect introduction to the album, Carly Rae and to the game. Because in an industry that has a Gay Right Activist, a breakup expert, a Candyfornia queen, a party animal, a child star gone bad, a Caribbean rebel, a surprise act and a pop rock trinity, you need to have a real life version of a Disney princess. And that Disney princess came into play with the universally liked Call Me Maybe.

At first, you might think that it's just a simple and boring song, but as it goes far, the tune is building up which makes it more interesting to listen. The lyrics is also an attention getter and universal. It's not only talking about a certain topic where only few people can relate on it. Everyone can possibly connect their lives on it. Listening to this song is like listening to a meaningful melodious message where you can learn from it and apply it to your daily life.

I’m introducing my album with March To The Sea because it’s the song that caught my ear as a pop fan, and sold me on this band. The song instantly captivates with the beautiful melancholic opening guitar hook before tearing the rug out from under you and blasting off at a relentless pace before exploding during the chorus. That chorus especially hits like a tsunami, sucking in any listener or innocent passerby whether they like it or not.
The song may be on the heavier side than you’re used to, but it’s insanely catchy and accessible because of its pop-inspired structure and will surely appeal to pop fans. It’s also impossible not to like and appreciate musically, from the chugging propulsive drums and guitar riff on the verses to the swirling guitars and crashing cymbals on the chorus that bring to mind crashing ocean waves on the chorus. The song is also affecting, telling the story of a person suffering a loss from addiction and has the pained, angry, and mournful vocal performance to match. The song also hints at the artistry and ambition of the album and what the band is capable of.

I think that "Eye of the Needle" is the song that could make you fall in love with Sia. The lyrics are very meaningful and emotional, Sia being afraid of letting go of a former lover and not knowing what to do from now on, but, if you're not in her situation, you can just appreciate the instrumentation and her powerful voice (and especially when her voice cracks, you can feel the emotion that she gave to the song). Pretty sure you will find this woman unique because slaying both vocally and lyrically isn't easy, and she did it. Not only with this song, but with her entire album which I hope you will discover through this game and will like it. Now, you would ask me why is this song the most "bulletproof" one from the album. Well, its melody isn't too loud (like in "Chandelier") and it's a bit more relaxing too, but Sia is still delivering her unique voice here.

That combined with its "slow build to a massive end" production completely engrosses you in its experience and makes you feel every kind of emotion you had buried deep inside you.

Aside from this, the theme and the vibe of the song itself are generally very appealing and relatable. Ed not only showcases his raw intense vocals, he also expresses deep emotions. The lyrics and instrumentals are also irresistible. This is THE perfect song for the romantics out there and can entice anyone from all walks of life, whether you’re 23 or 70. ()
But the main reason why I chose this is the fact that this song does not only appeal to Ed’s fans, but to others as well. I actually know a lot of people both in ATRL and irl that had entered the fandom because of the impression that this song gave away. Besides, it did not hit #1 in the UK for no reason. This proves how universally likeable TOL is, because it does not just appeal to the fans, it appeals to the general public.

In many ways – from the raw rage to the personal yet poetic lyrics – this tune is signature Alanis through and through. Despite being released 19 years ago, the timelessly relatable themes of “You Oughta Know” are still connecting and resonating with current generations, with the song continually being covered by major pop stars on their tours, being featured on Glee and singing competition shows, and still making countless “Best Of” lists. This track is not only deserving of the Grammys it managed to win when Alanis was a newcomer to the music scene, but also of the lasting legacy it has achieved as a classic track embedded in the history of popular music. From the controversial lyrics and the buzz still surrounding the song’s mysterious subject, to Alanis’ rough around the edges persona and edgy vocal delivery, “You Oughta Know” is not only the most “bulletproof” track on the album “Jagged Little Pill”, but perhaps the most “bulletproof” of Alanis’ entire career.

OFF
Avril (love her and the song, but I made the SAME mistake sending this song in the first time around)
All In a Day's Work (I've heard this song and it's pretty overrated)
Roar (Dark Horse would have been the best choice)
You Lost Me (Christina has better ballads on the album)
Salute (They have too many self-empowerment anthems. You could have gone with These Four Walls)
SAVE
Team (best choice because this made me give Lorde a chance)
2 On (the song that got me into Tinashe, and obviously a first single that breaks you into mainstream is universally appealing)
You Oughta Know (perfect choice)
Oops! I Did It Again (perfect choice)

So sorry to those I vote off actually all except one of the entries I enjoyed.
OFF:
Moments - A lot better choices I am sorry this is one of the most polarizing on the album for me.
Roar - I don't think this is the best choice I would have picked Dark Horse personally.
Salute - Not a fan of this song at all, haven't heard the album but it doesn't make me want to hear it.
You Lost Me - I would have went with a more coherent song at least in a least bit (Maybe Monday Morning or something?)
Nobody But You - I really don't think this was the best choice, I would have went with Goldmine or Teen Heat.
SAVE:
Gypsy (most non-polarizing on the album, great choice!)
Nobody's Perfect (great choice!)
Empire (i agree this would be the best choice!)
Blank Space (the only song I like on the album, so a great choice... lol!)

I know Sufjan since long as well, and this year I got into 'Illinois' all over again. It still sounds like the first time. Such a great album.

Yes! Red is amazing (I can't think of a bad album named Red honestly) and Isak is one of my favorite songs by them.
Illinois is great and how I got into him, but Age of Adz is one of my favorite albums of all time.
