Calypso Celeste (or just Calypso) is my drag name that I came up with earlier this year. Calypso is a ocean fairy in greek mythology that lured Odysseus with her songs in Homer's Odyssey. Like the greek fairy, Calypso Celeste is addictive and seductive; able to lure in men with her celestial ( ) looks and performance skills.
I would be lying however if I didn't mention that I actually got this name because one time I was stoned in full drag with my friend and went into a gas station to get food and ended up buying a Calypso blue raspberry iced tea. Something about the name clicked and then I later added Celeste as the last name. It's not trashy I swear, Calypso Celeste is divine.

My name is Lady Royalty, and that is how you will treat me. I demand to be treated as Royalty 24/7, I am a queen so I deserve to be treated as such. Set on my feet and you will be down on your feet, because I'm above all. This is also a pun on "Lady Gaga", but instead of being a freak I am classy and elegant, oh is it sunny? Or did I just cause some shade? Oops. This name is fierce just like me, and it proves that I will be one of the best contestants in this game.
Farewell.

Similarly to my favorite drag queen Katya, I am also a huge fan of the women's gymnastics world. Katya named herself after two Russian gymnasts from the 2000 Olympic team: Katya Lobaznyuk and Yelena Zamolodchikova. This is around the time Katya started drag as well. My name is thought up in the same format. My first name comes from Japan's most successful female gymnast from the last 50 years, Koko Tsurumi. Choosing the last name was the hardest part, as I wanted it to be derived from a current Russian gymnast, but not end in "-ova" so I wouldn't seem like I'm Katya's drag daughter as hers ends with the same three letters. With that in mind, my last name is edited from a Russian gymnast who won two gold medals at the Youth Olympic Games last year, Seda Tutkhalyan. I love the alliteration of the K sound as well. This name shows my love for drag and gymnastics all in one swoop and that's how it represents me!

Anyone who knows me on ATRL already knows that I'm a giant fan of Emma Roberts, and given how much I've been talking about/stanning for Scream Queens, it seems only fitting that I'd take on the name of Emma Roberts' character, Chanel. Though the name is both an homage to the upcoming best character in television history, it obviously refers back to the brand, known for its amazing fashion and iconography. A name like that seems only fitting for a queen like myself (even though that over-thinking, overdone thing Shannel exists).
Meanwhile, the last name, DiAngelo, belonged to a set of characters I invented for a story long ago. There were four DiAngelo sisters-- Ava, MarryAnn, Maddi (whom I almost took the name of for this very challenge, but would've used a different last name) and Evie. All were spoiled, but all had very different issues they attempted to work out for each other. The DiAngelo sisters each had different traits I wish I could show better: Bravery from Ava, wit from MarryAnn, a general sense of being aloof (in a good manner) from Maddi, and intelligence from Evie. The DiAngelo sisters are very dear to me, and exemplify things I wish I could unleash better within myself. Using their last name as my drag persona only begins to help me use this character, Chanel DiAngelo, as a vehicle for those traits and more

It represents me, because I am the [insert my fave's name here] of the group, obviously, and the only deserving winner of the season.
P.S. I didn't know if this show had the funding for me to mention my fave's expensive and ICONIC name, so I was considerate . You're welcome.

I like to describe myself as a visual artist clearly inspired by the avantgarde art of the 20th and 21st century. That's why my style is very unique and somewhat outrageous. You may see me wearing a chandelier on my head and the next day I'll be wearing a stylish long gown. Christina doesn't like to stay in a comfort zone - she's all about discovering new parts of herself and evolving to the point of being the drag Queen of the world. The second name holds a special meaning to me because my style is clearly inspired by the amazing fashion designer Alexander McQueen so I'd like to think of myself as her drag-successor. Christina comes from my real boy name - Chris and it also sounds quite catchy and iconic. Am I allowed to say that, huh? I am willing to give my all and werk my arse off in order to become ATRL's Next Drag Superstar!

Okay, okay, okay. Let me fix my hair.
That's better. Where was I? Oh, yes. My name is Essie Jae Sherbet.
There are more components to my name than the number of fake lashes I own
(which you best know is a lot), so let me keep it brief and summarise for you Queens.
*hair flick*
Essie Jae is a take on my previous online persona, Sam Jay. Essie represents the letter 'S' in an interesting and
unique way, while Jae is a more feminine adaption of the name Jay. Sherbet is reminiscent of the surname
of Pop Queen Kesha Sebert. Therefore my drag name is very symbolic of my entire ATRL persona as well.
Essie is a nail cosmetics brand, which perfectly represents my drag persona. As Alaska Thunderfuck would say,
"If you're not wearing nails, you are not doing drag." The name Essie is also similar to that of Effie Trinket, a
character from the Hunger Games renowned for her bold and colourful hair, outlandish outfits, over-the-top
make-up and infectious personality; qualities that Essie Jae Sherbet definitely possesses.
Jae is a crucial part to my drag persona. Three-part names are often some of the most glamorous, interesting
and memorable. Think Bianca Del Rio, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lana Del Rey, Carly Rae Jepsen... well
maybe not that last one. But you get the picture. The addition of Jae elevates an already eye-catching name in
Essie Sherbet to an even more spectacular and potentially iconic one. Plus Essie Jae sounds great together.
Sherbet is the perfect surname to finish my drag persona with. I know sherbet as a white, or sometimes
coloured, fizzy powdered confectionary. It can be artificially flavoured and is very sweet and effervescent
on the tongue, similar to pop rocks. What better way for a Queen to be? Artificially altered with a bubbly,
colourful personality. But watch out, too much of a good thing can lead to cavities.
And that's the story behind Essie Jae Sherbet. It's instant, it's creative, it's bold and it's fantastic.
I'll be signing autographs outside of my dressing room, thank you. |

And in four: I am Yuri Null.
Taking a page out of Gaga's book on taking pages out of books, I decided to take a name that is both a reference and homage to great works. My partial namesake, is none other then the Mexican Madonna, Yuri. Who reflects my heritage and love for cheap camp. I'm also taking inspiration from Marcel Duchamp's most in/famous piece, Fountain. By naming myself after its too talked about subject matter, I'm representing who I am now, a fine art queen (shout out to my BFA queers.) Lastly, it reflects my future and where I see myself 2-3 times a day.
Thank you,
God bless.

Why "A. Nell"?
A. Nell was chosen as because of a multitude of reasons. "A" stands for Anne, which is my late grandmother's name and I felt this is the best way to pay honor to her. Nell was chosen because of the legendary Nell Campbell who remains an inspiration for generations to come. Coming up with a drag name took time and consideration and it finally came on me in the middle of the night that this was THE name.

Names are everything in the world. They are our identities, our beliefs and every aspect of ourselves summed up in a few letters. Therefore, in approaching this challenge, I found it important for my new persona to encapsulate a part of myself.
After careful consideration, I have assumed the name of Scarlett LaPierre for this competition.
As a gay male, I've never really considered myself through a female perspective, which made it difficult to conceptualize a female personification that felt authentic to me. So, instead of trying to make a drag name that reflected familiar aspects of my personality, I decided to make a drag name that captured part of my Jungian shadow. As I am normally rather docile and laidback, I wanted to create a contrasting persona that was aggressive and brash. An unapologetic bitch that reflected more undeveloped or ignored areas of my personality. Thus, Scarlett LaPierre was born.
The name "Scarlett", thanks to Gone with the Wind, is strongly linked with the American South, and "LaPierre" is noticeably French in origin, referencing Louisiana. Louisiana was where I was born and raised, and Southern culture played a huge role in my development (for better or worse). Right off the bat, you can tell much about my background from the name. But, with further analysis, more layers can be unveiled.
Though I have not previously thought of myself through a female perspective, I have projected myself onto women and female characters for all of my life. This part of my life is shown both names in my drag persona referencing females.
As mentioned above, the name "Scarlett" is strongly associated with Gone with the Wind and the character Scarlett O'Hara. Scalett O'Hara is a survivor and she's strong, but she's also manipulative and self-centered. Scarlett O'Hara is complex, and her character captures much of my shadow. This made her my primary inspiration in creating Scarlett LaPierre.
But I didn't just want my drag persona to be the stereotypical "bitchy queen". While fun, it wouldn't really capture me, which is where "LaPierre" comes in. Much of my personality comes from a place of love and kindness. So, I decided to take my last name from one of my idols, Cher, whom I believe to be a very loving and kind person and whose legal name was once "Cheryl LaPiere" early in life. I added an extra "r" for aesthetic reasons (double "r"s to match the double "t"s in "Scarlett") and to create a visible contrast between the feminine "La" and masculine "Pierre" within the name. “LaPierre” as a full name also evokes the sound of “rapier”, which is meant to symbolize the unabashed and abrasive qualities of Scarlett.
Plus, Scarlett LaPierre sound pretty fierce anyway.
Names have meaning, and words have power. I wanted a drag name that reflected part of myself, and Scarlett LaPierre emerged. Scarlett combines positive and potentially negative aspects of my personality to craft a complex character who is, while completely unlike my normal self and unlike any other persona I've ever made, still completely authentic to me.

- This is me 100% tbh. I'm able to carry not only myself confidently, but my thoughts as well. A true queen is both confident & independent and that's definitely what I am! The word soliloquy reminds me to stay true to myself & my opinions. I also love the fact that the word just has SO much personality. It slays and I luvs it. Others may not like it but I do & that's all that matters. (hihi referencing Soliloquy again) Also Kaeli is my first name irl & it rhymes so the combination is unique and cool sounding.

My best friend always joked around where if I did drag, I should be called Weslina Spice, and it always stayed around. It's basically a feminine version of my male name. The "spice" added to "Weslina" represents the spicy, fierce diva that I bring out during my performances. There is never a bland side to Weslina Spice.

A Name Fit For A Queen
I thought long and hard about whether I should try and come up with something brand new and impressive that would be funny or interesting, but throughout this competition I just want to be me and I can't do that without staying true to the name that I have always used and loved - Carmen Scarlett. Carmen Scarlett was this character I made up two years ago at about the same time something really awful happened to me. It was a secret identity that I used because I was such an unconfident person and when I was Carmen I immediately felt stronger and like I could face anything again. I became Carmen for about a year. Both parts of the name were taken from Lana songs because I dedicate this to her as she helped me through a lot at the same time. It was my name on social networks, I started experimenting with drag, and about a year ago I finally felt confident enough in myself that I didn't need to be Carmen anymore. But now I realised I can be both through drag - it's given me the outlet to be both Matthew and Carmen when I want to or need to be. Carmen Scarlett helped me through a lot and even though it might not be the most interesting name to the judges - I'm not using puns or anything - I wouldn't be true to myself if I didn't go with Carmen. Thanks Citrus.

My drag name is inspired by my idol, Mariah Carey. In addition to having the greatest discography in music history, Mariah has (or has had at some point in her career) all of the important elements of a superstar: the voice, the personality, the body, the hair, the ability to shade, to read, and to be the center of attention. As Carrie Messiah, I will of course have many MC songs in my setlist; after all, I've been lip syncing for my life to Mariah songs since the Daydream era and have perfected many MC performances in my shower! (You should see me do the rap from Prisoner.) And I can incorporate the "Messiah" part into my entrance; I will slowly walk out on stage in my Virgin Mary garb as the intro to Vision of Love plays, then pull it off to reveal my little black dress right as I begin to sing the first verse! However, marketing yourself as a celebrity impersonator is so limiting and boring; that's why my name is close to Mariah's, but not some pun that forces the connection (I'm sure some people wouldn't even notice the relationship). I will still be able to perform songs from my other iconic faves, like Whitney, Kelly, Taylor, and Samantha Mumba. Ultimately, the name is a creative personification of how I see myself with the purity of a child's heart before it was ever broken.

WILHELMINA
WHY: As funny as it may sound, when I was a child and we used to call each other by the female version of our names (as most boys in elementary school do, I hope), everyone was stumped as to what to call me. My name is William and the best everyone could come up with was Wilma, which I absolutely hated. I mean, how butch, right?
As I grew older and exposed to more names, I discovered Wilhelmina, which I thought was super chic. A few years later, I took a large interest in fashion and discovered that there was a major modeling agency named Wilhelmina Models. Right then and there, I joked that Wilhelmina would be my drag name.
On another occasion, I drunkenly slipped on my friends tutu and she began to call me that and I corrected her and said it's "Wilhemina Tutu", which is my full drag name to separate me from the rest.
And let's not forget the iconic character from Ugly Betty, Wilhelmina Slater. A true inspiration.
HOW: Wilhelmina to me is an unusual name and it's closeness to my name as well as it's fashion DNA truly represents my drag style. Lastly, if you don't like me or my style of drag, there will be "hel" to pay.
