I hope it slays I wonder what do they expect for the opening weekend.
The box office tracking seems off and if sites are having a hard time predicting for big brands like Dr Strange, Beasts and even Star Wars, I think none will have a clear prediction until the very last days before the release date or when the reviews come out
I feel like this film is going to bomb hard. The promotion hasn't been good, and I'm skeptical if the film is going to be good at all considering JLaw asked for such a high upfront cost.

If u look up info about the script you'll find nothing but praise. It's supposed to be really good but who knows if the movie will be good. I think it will but I kinda don't think it'll be a huge hit it'll do good tho.

You know how the studios have expectations I wonder what's theirs.
Sony marketing sucks at least on blockbusters, see The Amazing Spiderman 2 (so terrible and unimaginative) and Ghostbusters which had its problems but their marketing gave it the final blow.
As something based just from a script the success of this movie is totally on the general/casual audience
Continuing the recent trend of big-budget films featuring people being lost in space (Gravity, The Martian), Passengers stars Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt as two people that wake up 90 years early during a 120-year journey to a new planet.
Though there has been recent talk that Hollywood is running out of movie stars with significant box office drawing power, one cannot discount the combined potential of Lawrence and Pratt starring in a film together. In addition to starring in two of the biggest film franchises of the last five years, Jennifer Lawrence has also accumulated four Oscar nominations in six years, winning once for Silver Linings Playbook. Since August of 2014, Pratt has starred in three films, two of which grossed over $300 million at the domestic box office.
Romantic thrillers featuring two major stars have not always been a home run at the box office. Fellow December release The Tourist, starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, came in well under expectations in 2010, with a $67.6 million domestic gross. The success of the aforementioned Gravity and The Martian, however, prove that audiences will turn out in droves for a film that takes place predominantly in outer space if said film turns out to be good, which given director Morten Tyldum’s recent track record (The Imitation Game), seems likely. A gross not too far below The Martian ($228.4 million) should be within reach.
•Opening Weekend (5-day): $55 million
•Projected Gross Range: $150 million – $250 million
•Estimated Final Gross: $195 million
Others estimates:
SING $37 million (3-days), $55 million (5-days)
PASSENGERS $26 (3-days), $39 million (5-days)
ASSASSIN's CREED $20 (3-days), $33 million (5-days)
Passengers over AC by 6 million, the US promo is kicking in with Jimmy Fallon next week so I refuse to believe it'll do basically as much as that crappy videogame movie
Usually the box office is the last thing I watch but it just seems weird a scifi with these two can do just 10 million more than the movie about the mop (Joy)
