n I agree about BTS, their solos being much better than the mess of the second half, though I think my fave was a sing on the latter half because of how ironically tragic it was anyway, Sexuality and Fool to Love are such B0PS and Gorilla is cute too. Agree about Jonghyun having better trax, She is certainly didn't scream album highlight to me.
Landcruisin' - Jai Paul's brother releases this incredible track filled with twists and turns that I loved. Unfortunately I can't find a proper video? But look up A.K. Paul - Landcruisin' for one of the coolest, smoothest, yet super interesting tracks of the year.
Deepened - High Heels is good, but I love this R&B-leaning number from them even more. It gives me the kind of style I'd like Tinashe to do for a pop crossover hit. But the best part is the rapper who is feeling her verse.
WOW - My favourite Beck album is actually one of his softer reinventions - Sea Change, but I still love his bizarre-ness a lot. This song encapsulates his artistry in that you never know what he'll do next.
チュパカブラ - Wednesday Campanella (I can never spell that on my first try) are an interesting electronic group in Japan. They are basically everything I love about music - weird concepts and lyrics, cool beats and music, ultimately just odd (by shinee on iTunes now). This song is no exception and I loved the house beat.
Let Me In - A SUPER recent entry (as in just a week or so ago?). I will actually be considering this for my next year's list too but I still had to give it a special mention. LOONA are a group that is revealing members periodically by giving them their own solos/songs. This one is insane. The visuals are stunning, one of my favourite videos of the year, but the music is equally beautiful. Stunningly orchestrated and magical.
thinking batches of five throughout the day, 15 a day?
Still Brazy - It's just... good. A prime example of his album which would have likely placed on my list had I listened to it more. I think this was one of the best hip hop related discoveries I had made this year. The good YG.
Shotgun - R&B is always wrapped up in some gimmick these days. I'm pretty much indifferent to most of it, and downright hate a lot of the Banks/Zayn/whatever minimal thing. Gallant finds the sweet spot in the middle, its just good music that at times reaches into other areas.
Wonderlust - If you were interested in DEAN from my albums list, I would recommend listening to Crush as well. He's doing the K-R&B thing too and doing it really well especially with this EP. I picked this song because I think it gets the theme across really well, and the wanderlust feel is beautiful. I recommend!!
Sentimental - I'm not really a (kpop) YG-anti, but I do tend to not like their artists' output (ex. Big Bang, IKON, 2ne1 for the most part). WINNER kind of fall into that category but I decided to listen to their music further. I like this song quite a bit, it has a nice melody and its a cool style.
끝이 안보여 - The first of MANY songs by SVT on this list. I love the vibe of this one, its mellow and almost solemn? The lyrics that are associated are very emotional but really interesting too, the rap team is really talented and they give a perfectly emotional delivery. Seventeen tends to write a lot about the pressures of idol life/the loneliness that comes along with that, and I think its a really unique insight as a Kpop fan. Recommended for R&B fans too.
Landcrusin does it for me too tho! You know I love Brazy but idk still how I got through the whole year without hearing anything from Gallant, I am making a playlist rn of things to check later though + that song will be on it. I haven't listened to Wow in a while but to his credit that it can still find itself stuck in my head at any moment's notice, he got what he was going for.
