I'm not saying that Disney invented the ****ing mermaid. Hans Christian Anderssen brought the mermaid to international attention with his much-beloved fairy tale. I know this, please don't presume that I don't.
But when you post a thread WITH A PICTURE OF A ****ING DISNEY MERMAID IN THE ORIGINAL POST you imply that the idea of a mermaid for the purpose of this discussion is one that looks like ****ing Ariel. And, at the bottom of the ocean, THAT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE (unless we're talking about the collapsible lungs/epidermis/etc.)
I'll grant you that there's a possibility that some kind of sentient species might exist at the bottom of the ocean but it would have to have very specific adaptations that would, IN MY OPINION, WOULD NOT BE A MERMAID. It would be SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY, probably something totally alien-looking.
I'M NOT SAYING DISNEY CREATED THE MERMAID. I'M NOT SAYING THAT ALL "MERMAIDS" LOOK LIKE ARIEL. Bleeding Christ.
In conclusion: the "mermaids" of folklore would not survive at the bottom of the ocean. Is it possible that something else is down there? Maybe. But it's probably not a "mermaid."
When people are religious, it's because they think someone has created earth and animals and eventually humanity.
Who in their right mind believes in mermaids?
Since we only know about 5-10% of the sea/ocean, it IS possible that something very similar to what we call a mermaid could exist.
And God, part of a religion, is far-fetched. There are too many questions lingering about religion/God that make it make no sense.
Mermaids are more probable than a God. There is an actual science behind evolution and it is hypothetically possible for a terrestrial animal to become aquatic. I'm not going to stop repeating this until you guys understand.
i have 3 kidneys, rapid change in organ structure/amount is actually possible...basically any mutation is possible just not highly probable.
Not the same.
Any biologist/scientific will tell you that there are mutations that are in fact in possible. Like suddenly my kids having wings or gills. The whole logic between evolution is that it helps them live in their environment through very slow changes. So yes there are things that are impossible.
Mermaids are NOT less far-fetched than religion

Still haven't looked at the OP now have you? Because there is no such thing there

Still possible over multiple generations
Point to me where I said it was a one generation over-night change and this post will be viable.

And if for some reason, a billion years ago, a terrestrial humanoid population needed to become aquatic for survival purposes they would.
All I want to know is-- why would some fishermen in the midevil ages make up mermaids. I means what's the point of that?? Would you be able to make up such things especially a few hundred years ago when there was no technology.
