Hi guys. I used to post around ATRL a few years ago. Not very frequently. But I always linger. I've been drawn back in because of that barbaric Ellen song, and because I can't think of anything worse than GREG KURSTIN as a producer for this album.
At the time I really enjoyed TTAL and to be honest I actually LOVE Blow Me (don't attack me please I've already fallen down the stairs today). But his production is so generic and it sounds the exact same with every Pink song, and I can't think of anything worse than getting a Piece By Piece - Kelly Clarkson type album. I love Kelly to DEATH but that album was seriously disappointing. I love pop Pink, but if she's going to offer us another IND-FH-TTAL rehash then it's gonna be a complete waste of her potential. I was watching that interview with Linda Perry where she said she wanted Pink to be the new Janis Joplin, and it saddens me so much that she's wasting her voice on Greg Kurstin. I need raw rock Waiting for Love Pink, with songs that really showcase her vocals. But to be honest I'll take anything over Greg Kurstin, which is strange because I think Timebomb is easily one of her best songs, and have you guys heard Famous by Charli XCX? That song has one of the catchiest instrumentals I've ever heard, yet most of his stuff with Pink is a miss. TODAY'S THE DAY.... WHAT IS THAT?! The production. The lyrics. Yes, I get that it's just a promo song for Ellen, but if it's any indicator of what the album is gonna be like.......... Plz no.
Jesus I sound so negative BUT I really am excited for her new album. What does everyone want from it? I know it's not gonna happen but like I said, I need an album full of Waiting for Love's, with raspy vocals. Linda Perry said that as long as you have great vocals and great lyrics that's all you need, and I agree. I don't need huge production that distracts from her vocals - HELLO GREG. But if I don't get that, I want an album full of Max Martin bops tbh. Two complete opposite ends of the spectrum haha. But **** Like You remains the best song on TTAL. SORRY BOUT IT.
I think Grenn-O agrees with me on this, that 'Ultraviolence' should have been P!nk's album. The doubt that this type of album ever happens to appear in P!nk's discography is real, my friends.
She's too dependent on Kurstin & Co. I feel like she fears to flop like she did with 'Try This' (in the US) and with one more flop that her status as a global Superstar fades away - in comparison: Christina's 'Bionic'/'Lotus' desaster which albums didn't get her any hits at all and nothing but panning by the critics. She had to participate in collaborations to actually get hits and stay some sort of relevant. Another example is Avril Lavigne. Her last 2 albums 'Goodbye Lullaby'/'Avril Lavigne' weren't too well received either. She was once on top of the pop/rock trinity (that is P!nk, Avril, Kelly). After Lavigne's last successful album in 2007 P!nk has taken that top spot.
Probably that's why P!nk isn't taking any risk. She wants to stay on top of the game even if the price is to release the same album over and over again. To be honest she doesn't need too. Her well established fanbase (the tour goers, the audience of listeners,...) will hardly reject anything different sounding by P!nk. Most of them have been supporting her since the beginning so they know how versatile she is.
My expectations for the new album is that there's still hope we get a new twist of tunes and that Sia (who seems likely to be on the album) adds some magic to it. Hopefully Linda is involved as well. Personally I wouldn't mind Max Martin either but moderately. And Billy Mann and Dan Wilson can bring us hopefully the ballads that we're desiring and that are so well produced. On the minus side I say No to Butch and No to Greg - please ditch them. I know the latter will not concur and I will willingly take it how it is once the album is finished and released. Come what may...
Then take the production of UV and exclude the lyrics if you will. Because P!nk is not about hurt and soothing.
Yes it is! Forget about Taylor Swift and how she lacks a voice and how she might be overrated as a popstar. But 1989 is a very well produced pop album.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again, producers like Max Martin, Greg Kurstin, etc DO have a variety of work. There are Max Martin songs that are completely left field. The fact is that when he is hired by an artist to produce songs, he is working FOR them. If he creates a rehash it's only because that's what he was asked to do. Some producers will refuse to do that for the sake of integrity, but some just want a paycheck. After all, it is a job and how they make their money. Do I want Pink to change up her sound? Absolutely. But just because you change producers doesn't mean you change sounds. Look at Greg Kurstin and Max Martin. She still kept that same sound despite using a new producer. Both Greg and Max have created a variety of works. So she wanted that sound.
I like most of the UV. There are some amazing songs and there are songs that I heard 50 times and still can't remember them. Still, BTD is far better for me.
But, when you say P!nk should do UV type album, what do you mean by that?! Lyrically, musically, thematically?!
And why UV? I'm here for more Florence + the Machine type songs, some Courtney Barnett, and even Sia.
HBHBHB is kinda album of the year.
Speaking of, remember when P!nk had to open for him?
The crowd going absolutely bananas at 1:15. Back then I thought "What is it like to have your opening act be a better performer than you?"
You can hear the crowd going "Oh my god" through the whole thing.

I just showed my dad Today's The Day. He was a musician and he saw the Funhouse Tour and named it as the best live concert he's ever seen (also highly praised the covers and said she won't ever be better live than that). He said that he liked the song and it's perfect for a talkshow. He didn't hear any problem with it. It has a background purpose and it was strictly business for P!nk: she needed to write an easy happy song to support a daytime show and that's it. He said that he got interested in the show - and that was the goal of Ellen and the producers with the song and the trailer. It can't be a Free or a Waiting For Love when Ellen is foolishly dancing around.
