SNL doesn't really sell singles, yeah. But it's a profile booster and a bit of an albums seller, so it's all good
DW may not smash out of the gate (although it's not freefalling either), but it's an important song for her career. It's kind of a "next career level" song, I don't know if I'm wording it right.
Y'all are worrying too much. DW is by far the unsafest song she's ever released, so it's clear it's not gonna stick to the GP as fast as Problem, for example. It's much more mature and intense as vocal performance, so even if it doesn't match up with some of the ME singles peak, it's gon' do fine. Also, wait for more promo and the video to kick in - Rhythmic doesn't really worry me at this point cause I need this to be supported by top 40 stations more than ever.
I'd rather have this as a cute top 10 hit appreciated by the critics and appealing to older audiences than another Problem being top 3 but relegating her to a "basic pop bitch" status. Just wait and I'm sure we'll be pleasantly surprised. (FYI I love Problem, I'm just taking it as example cause it's the other side of Ari).

I think like some other people mentioned this song will be remembered as an important part of her career where she is transitioning into more of an artist. Even if this flops, which I dont think it will, it will be a significant release. In contrast Focus performed disappointingly in comparison to this so far, despite the fact that it was a blatant rehash of a past hit. Focus failed to show artistic creativity.
This release shows creativity & I think its one of the reasons there is so mich positivity compared to Focus.
