I don't think he/she meant "go pop." I think what they're trying to say is urban isn't going to be strong enough to carry the album and assure that it's success. We've seen plenty of people with big urban records who don't sell albums and fade over time. cc: Elle Varner, Brandy, Kelly R, Keri, Keyshia ect. A crossover record simply means something that can work at both urban and top 40 radio. Something that can get mainstream discussing her and her music again, because at the moment its only urban America thats really checking for her and even there, she hasn't saturated herself as much as she should have. Although I'm sure with her upcoming promo she will.

She does need a crossover record, though. Her team still has a month to drop something, so we'll see.

Ciara coming "back" isn't going to happen over night or with one album. Especially since she was never, IMO, fully established and she's not a big seller in the digital or physical world. IMO her team is currently focusing on her core, which is urban america, and trying to solidify herself as a major voice and face in that world. Something she hasn't been in years. As far as mainstream America goes, they can focus on that with the next album while still keeping her urban fans satisfied.

Japan stans for the princess

Ciara only charted in Japan during the Fantasy Ride era and that was mainly due to the huge international promotion Ciara received during the project. She hadn't charted in that country in 4 years. It's interesting to see if this new project will perform well internationally without the huge budge that FR had.

You can't compare any of those people to Ciara.

Brandy has had a much longer down-time than Ciara, in addition to that Brandy relied on "Put It Down" to sell that album. Her follow up took to long and by the time it drop, no one cared.

Kelly Rowland has never had the level of Solo success as Ciara, so i rebuke that comparison in the name of Jesus.
