Hmmm I don't want to start anything but Namie seriously has been bringing it with her music post Past/future. Kumi has stayed pretty much the same with her music, nothing really drastic...while Ayu music seems to be a hit/miss.

Agreed. Kumi really brought it with JAPONESQUE tho. And Ayumi is hit/miss for me too, mostly miss but she still has her gems.

I'll start with this. As much as I love & live for Kyary she is not the only person still making good music and to suggest otherwise is just
I was thinking about this a few days ago and I think all these groups debuting in Japan is a bit much. The only equivalent I can think of is like a whole bunch of 1D like boy groups debuting every few months in the US, I'd hate it.
I think this is obviously a reaction to the sales of SQUARE ONE. J-Pop as a whole still ***** so he and those people he's retweeting can take their seats.
If he wants to blame or say **** you to somebody do it to those AKB48 hoes they're making it hard for everybody & I still need to give SQUARE ONE a listen.

Your opinion just went out the window in a hurry
And I have a lot of tea on Taku (he's a friend of someone I talk to on another forum; pictures to prove it) but I'm not sure I wanna share
Let's just say that Square One is the album he wanted to make, and just because he's been making j-pop since 2002, doesn't mean he liked it. If you listen to the into to Square One, you'll hear that mention of "lack of corporate sponsorship" - that's basically a reference to how the label wasn't very happy with the fact they didn't want to make a straight pop alberm.
Though tbh I'd be pissed if AKB48 dominated in my country, too, if I were an artist like Taku. It's gotten to the point where even some of the most respected soloists are being ignored for candy acts.

Well, there were no expectations for SQUARE ONE, it's been five years, and if you don't release consistantly you WILL be forgotten. And it's not a really commercial style(at least for Japan). Couple that, and no high profile features(or features released at all ) and little promo, and it's not surprising. Even their first albums benefited from the R&B boom with people like Utada, Crystal, MISIA and DOUBLE bringing that style to the mainstream. And the Loves series was straight up pop, as commercial as possible, honestly.
Mainly, from his tweets I just got that they made the album they wanted, and I respect that 100%. It's doing well enough anyways right now chartwise.
And the whole J-Pop thing and quality is subjective really on what music you like. I'm bored by it, but it also doesn't help that my main fave has dropped off of the face of the Earth and who knows when she'll return.

Well it wouldn't be so bad if it was just AKB48 but when you have Johnny's Entertainment + a shitload of ****** K-Pop groups (no shade at all to anyone in particular) dominating the business it seems pretty sad. 2008 was the last really GREAT year in J-Pop IMO. K.U.N.A (take a guess shouldn't be too hard) was in full force that year.

I'm not too bothered cause my interest in J-Pop was always just a handful of faves, and most of them are now on hiatus or might as well be. I hope good times will come again.

It'll come back around. Just think of how Morning Musume used to be THE biggest act, until eventually others forced their game up so much that they couldn't -not- be noticed. I think the issue with SQUARE ONE lies in promo primarily - we'll learn more on that soon - but let's just say that the genre will truly come back around soon. It's a cycle not much different than the one in America, ie, right now America is entering another boyband cycle.

Why is he dragging KPop anw ? & K-groups are obviously not the reason m-flo's album is under-performing.
Also, the Japanese market is pretty huge, I think there's enough space for everyone. If they support a group that consists of 48 members, then they can't be pissed at 2 or 3 Korean groups debuting there every month.

He's not dragging kpop actually, did you read his tweets? He said that some groups in general (just groups) are saturating the market, which is absolutely factual, and his retweets of others were done as replies. Plus he worked with 2NE1 and BIGBANG, I mean, what are you on about?

I was referring to the retweets. (which is a fact, the majority do suck)
& ofc he isn't shading KPop groups as a whole, working with 2NE1 on SQUARE ONE is proof of that (esp. since according to you it's the album they wanted to make)
Speaking of which, I'm liking the alber more with each listen.

Yeah I think the K-Pop hype has peaked in Japan. All the big hitters (TVXQ, SNSD, Kara) have had their peak and are only going to go down from here.

I wouldn't count those three out just yet. TVXQ's new single is doing great & KARA & SNSD's albums are still steadily selling.
They're the ONLY three who will probably have lasting success there for the next few years. These other groups are just fads of the month pretty much
My boys 2PM are doing pretty well for themselves too their Korean Best album debuted at #2 on the daily chart with about 16,000 copies

I think TVXQ is done since they're a 2-man act now, but SNSD and Kara might still have one or two more in them. I think the country is overall getting a little bit exhausted with that, though. Maybe they'll let rock be big again finally
