It's obvious why. Don't kid yourself. Let's break it down, shall we?
1. "Birthday" has all the signs of a hit. For a single that has no promotional budget put in it yet (just a lyric video which really was Katy's "for fun" project), it has equal AI to GUY, healthy new spins growth (GUY is stalling in this front), well distributed airplay (no late night ugly stepchild business), Top 300 sales and continued high streams for the lyric video.
2. "G.U.Y."s adds date has come and gone. Large stations aren't touching the song. Secondary markets are spinning it at late nights. Hence the poor AI and obvious signs of an image problem for that artist. Also see stalled video views and sales outside the Top 500.
Most of us who care to understand the inner workings of the charts see that "Birthday" is clearly a hit and "G.U.Y." clearly is not.
