The Create a Label Chart: Week Three
After the end of yet another competition-filled week, sales are in. While some artists remained in their typical promotion routines, pop-gone-urban icon Céline Dion featured massive publicity this week after a heartstopping, terrifying performance with the late Barbara Streisand of their duet, "Ratchette", which inevitably led to the death of Streisand. Dion was arrested, despite Streisand's death being in self-defense, but was soon bailed out.
This scandal and publicity led to Dion racing to the top of the charts this week, leaving a huge gap between the first and second charting positions, filled by Eric Saade with his song "Can't Please Everybody". "Ratchette" also featured a high amount of sales from mourning Streisand fans, attempting to bring the song to #1 in her memory.
Shockingly, after a two-week #1 reign, Justin Bieber sank down with his single "This Christmas", featuring Vanessa Hudgens, after it peaked at #1 last week.
Other artists charting this week include M.I.A. with her song "Bad Girls", and Christina Aguilera with "Something, Something".
The Hits
1. Céline Dion - "Ratchette (feat. Barbara Streisand)"
720,000 copies sold
Week: 3
Last Week: #6
Peak Position: #1
After a terrifying week of promotion, scandal, attempted murder and death in self-defense, the featured artist, Barbara Streisand, met with an unfortunate end earlier this week at the hands of her would-be victim, Céline Dion. The issue sparked massive controversy world wide, and also caused a huge increase in sales, selling 220,000 copies more than last week, bringing the song to 1,660,000 copies sold total.
The song also charted at #1 in both Urban and Pop songs this week, and a remix of it, featuring Danity Kane, charted at #4 this week.
2. Eric Saade - "Can't Please Everybody"
640,000 copies sold
Week: 2
Last Week: #2
Peak Position: #2
At the exact same position as last week, "Can't Please Everybody" seems to be staying pretty static, selling 40,000 more copies this week than it did last, and still remaining at #2.
The song also charted at #2 on Urban songs, and #3 on Pop songs this week.
3. Paige Elliot - "Made of Stone"
630,000 copies sold
Marking the comeback of actress-gone-singer, "Made of Stone", an upbeat EDM masterpiece with dark undertones, clawed its way to 630,000 copies sold despite only being released two days ago. Should the song continue a pattern like this, which doesn't seem likely, it could reach #1 next week.
4. Christina Aguilera - "Something, Something"
550,000 copies sold
After the success of the previous single, "Freedom", Christina released her newest, "Something, Something", which also took the internet by storm, raking up a grand total of 550,000 copies sold.
"Something, Something" also charted at #2 on the Pop charts this week.
5. Céline Dion - "Ratchette (Show Stopper Remix) [feat. Danity Kane]"
520,000 copies sold
Fueled by the success of its original song, this remix of the urban hit "Ratchette" reached the #5 spot this week, selling only 200,000 copies less than its original single, due to the success of the original, which, in turn, was made successful due to the tragic end of Barbara Streisand and the resulting trial.
6. Justin Bieber - "This Christmas (feat. Vanessa Hudgens)"
490,000 copies sold
Week: 2
Last Week: #1
Peak Position: #1
After reaching a peak of #1 last week with 610,000 copies sold, "This Christmas" dropped 5 places to #6, also selling 120,000 copies less than last week. Surprisingly, Bieber didn't release a new single this week to keep his reign of #1 singles up. The success of "This Christmas" also led to "I Feel It (Holiday Spirit)" to continue charting yet again.
The single also charted at #4 on Pop songs this week.
7. Neon Hitch - "Dolla Dolla"
400,000 copies sold
Week: 3
Last Week: #9
Peak Position: #5
Continuing a rather stable charting streak, "Dolla Dolla" continued to #7 this week, creating an odd run of odd numbers, debuting at #5, followed by #9 and then to #7 this week.
8. Eric Saade - "Midnight Love"
300,000 copies sold
One of the three promotional singles released this week by Eric Saade, "Midnight Love" was the most successful, mostly due to a controversial video that was released this week that caused massive discussion, and bringing attention to the song. It featured a strong digital force, selling more than many official singles last week.
"Midnight Love" also charted at #5 on the Urban songs this week.
9. Namie Amuro - "Ballerina"
290,000 copies sold
Returning to the music industry, Namie Amuro released her new single, "Ballerina", and managed to snag the #9 spot. Despite it not being absolutely roaring success, this could be the beginning of another chart-dominating era, similar to the 'Namie Amuro Experience' era.
10. Justin Bieber - "I Feel It (Holiday Spirit)"
280,000 copies sold
Week: 3
Last Week: #7
Peak Position: #1
Featuring a now-steadying decline after a 6-spot drop last week, the lead single from Bieber's Christmas album, 'Christmas Weekend', only dropped two spots this week. The single's charting this week was due, in part, to the success of its following single, "This Christmas".
The song also charted at #3 on Urban songs this week.
11. Eric Saade - "All You Wanted"
230,000 copies sold
Yet another promo single, it sold an equal amount of copies as "Gave You Everything", the final promo single from Saade this week. Both were overshadowed by the success of "Midnight Love", however.
12. Eric Saade - "Gave You Everything"
230,000 copies sold
13. Christina Aguilera - "Freedom"
190,000 copies sold
Week: 3
Last Week: #4
Peak Position: #2
Featuring a new low this week, "Freedom" dropped eight spots and 350,000 copies, only seeing this much success from its now-more-successful sister single "Something, Something".
14. M.I.A. - "Bad Girls"
120,000 copies sold
15. Miley Cyrus & Lindsay Lohan - "Bitch Like That"
100,000 copies sold
Week: 19
Last Week: -
Peak Position: -
Featuring a spike in promotion due to an accidental billboard placement right next to promotion for Céline Dion's "Ratchette", "Bitch Like That" began to chart yet again.

Will Eric Saade finally get a #1 next week? And will Dion's horrible scandal with the late Streisand continue to fuel "Ratchette"?
It all depends on the artists as they continue to compete, fighting and clawing for the #1.
