My point with "drag" is who the **** is Madonna to approve or disapprove of anyone when (1) she made stealing the norm in Pop and (2) she's promoting and championing the saddest case of thievery in Pop history: Rita Ora.
It's not even necessarily ATRL/other internet bottoms on forum she's bothered about rousing the attention of. We're just a smaller by-product of it all and our power and influence is incredibly limited.
Just take a scan of the news websites, newspapers etc today and tomorrow. "Gaga addresses critics", "Gaga references Madonna comparison", "Gaga addresses hermaphrodite rumour"- they'll simply do a write-up of what Gaga has said and what each tweet is in reference to. None of them are going to spend the time to do some novel about Gaga's supposed decline or Gaga's mental state of mind or Gaga's charting relative to Katy because outside of online pop-culture sphere that's not even a thing. We'll talk about it non-stop all day long and grab our kiis but that's as far as it goes.
The important thing is that each of these articles will have "Listen to Do What U Want (ft. R Kelly) below", or a Youtube embed of Applause, and a line that says ARTPOP is out November 11th. They'll also have more Gaga stories in related links. She's doing exactly what Miley did a few weeks back- playing and bettering the media at their own game. It won't have the same impact or scale as Miley's, that's a given- but it's getting the word out there. Questionable promo tactics yeah but they're clearly having a desired effect.
