AKB is pretty much the only exception to this rule. And if you look at the digital charts AKB48 are #1 on the artist overall lists as well proving their dominance even more. But overall physical these days is no longer the way to judge real hits for the most part. Take Kana Nishino for example. It'd be crazy to say she isn't a huge force which many people would say simply by looking at her physical sales.

This is a gripe people have had for many years now with Oricon. The answer given is simply that Oricon is a provider only meant to calculate physical sales and nothing more. It's a shame really.

That's what I'm saying. SCV2 was certainly half-assed. Who else has released a Greatest Hits after only 2 albums . Not everyone is going to want to pay full-length album price for just 5 new songs. The release was by no means a flop and/or gauge of her popularity in Japan. It under performed but we all did have big expectations for it. I feel like so many things went wrong with the entire era
