That's happened for Beast a multitude of times but to hear that it's not only them that have had that issue makes me think it wouldn't work for 2NE1 either. I think it simply makes more sense for artists in Korea to release their singles with their albums because of how long that that strategy has been used in K-pop and, as a result, how effective it is. I wish YG would compromise and find ways to be inventive without hurting his artists' chances at chart domination. He's done it before!
It is definitely incredible and for that reason I think it makes this era seem less impressive. Nonetheless, their streak on the singles chart has been fantastic and it shouldn't be devalued simply because they're having a more difficult time this go round.
Do you think their extended break ~touring is a factor in that?
And from what I've gathered, YG tends to alienate his artists from music programs and variety shows. Like if his artists are... too good (for a lack of a better phrase) to do these things, which is why he's having them appear on them this go around. It's either that or it's because CL and/or Minzy don't feel comfortable doing variety shows (Minzy seemed to do quite well on Running Man, though. CL was so awkward).

Oh, definitely. It's been 2 years since 2NE1 have actively released music and promoted on television shows and that's a long time - especially in the world of K-pop.
CL is very awkward on variety shows lol, she's fascinating on-stage but she lacks when you take that away. And Belle is probably right - she's a perfectionist and that may be what affects her outside of performances. But even on 2NE1 TV she's always just seemed...idk, blander then the other girls? The Korean Beyonce indeed. If anything I think that it's been necessary for 2NE1 to do variety shows this go round because of how long that they've been gone, but I also find FIL and DYLM's performances disappointing given that their promotion has been larger this era than ever before.
JYP Entertainment revealed on the 15th, "The Wonder Girls members directly participated in the preparation of Sunmi's solo debut and showed their endless support."
According to the JYPE rep, all of the Wonder Girls took part in creating the choreography and music video concept for "24 Hours". The rep stated, "The members directly took part in the choreography and style-concept and shared their opinions and a lot of their suggestions were incorporated into [Sunmi's solo debut]. The music video was filmed according to the concepts that the members had in mind."
Sunmi will make her solo debut with the release of her music video on the 20th and digital single "24 Hours" on the 26th!

I can understand YG's rationale though. I really, really appreciate that he wants each song to get the shine of being a single with a video and proper promotions. I hate when artists have loads of amazing songs on their album that never become hits and are never known to the public because they were never singles (aka the life story of K-Pop ) I remember some years ago SHINee's Key (or maybe it was Jonghyun I don't remember) who said he wished that SHINee could release more singles from the album after it was released instead of just promoting 1 song and that's it (and that was during the Lucifer era, so many amazing songs on that album gone to waste ). In that sense you could say YG let's nothing go to waste... even old intros from a year ago
Basically as a fan I just love having loads of singles. And as much as I like watching the charts that doesn't impact how I feel as a fan one bit. I could really give a **** as long as I'm enjoying the music, which I am. I do think this comeback could feel more like an "event" though (sort of like the To Anyone era), and I think that was the big mistake YG made with FIL. The release should have been hyped up waaaaaaay more. Their comeback stage being cancelled definitely didn't help either.

All of this is so true! I believe that's what has always drawn me to YG and to 2NE1 in particular. As a fan, you receive so much more than you would from any other artist and it makes being a fan far more exciting . However, it affects them on the charts and I believe that that is the primary drawback of the situation. But I'd rather have that than a group who releases 1 single every 6 months to a year, promote for a month, and are then MIA thereafter unless they do a re-release.
But your point about their comeback feeling like an event is something that I agree with, 100%. That's probably why the To Anyone era was my favorite of theirs thus far - it felt big, even if it wasn't the conventional K-pop era. This time around, nothing has felt like an event in the way that that era or even the 2nd Mini Album era did, with Lonely and IATB. There most definitely should have been more hype surrounding FIL.
CL hates doing anything that she's not sure she'll do perfectly.
This is so true.
I don't know why, but CL is one of the idols I would really want to meet in real life. There's something about her (and Bom) that makes me feel like they'd be interesting people to talk to. They're young, but they've done so much in their lives already. Actually, there are a lot of idols that seem like cool people. BoA, Jonghyun, Yenny, JeA, all of BEG, actually. Idk, if any of them ever come to the US and are big enough to do meet and greets...I think I'd shell out for that.
Jonghyun and CL are by far the most intriguing idols to me.
+Bom for me, but yeah. CL is kind of extraordinary. The woman is a polyglot, an excellent entertainer, she's obviously quite intelligent, and she seems to have this...like...I don't know what to call it. Innate idealism? Jonghyun too, both of them have this quality about them, their outlook and the way they express themselves. It's fascinating to me. I feel kind of weird saying that but I really admire them.

Oh trust, I do too. But what do you mean by innate idealism?
And Bom is fascinating as well but she doesn't intrigue me like the other 2.

It's probably to do with the fact that most of what we hear from them is translated, but the comments they make about certain things and how they speak, what they say...as people, they seem to look at things differently than you would expect. Especially Jonghyun, sometimes the things he tweets are just. I don't know, I feel like I'm embarrassing myself here, but they seem to be lacking the cynicism that's so common in people nowadays. I think it's because they're entertainers. Their whole lives are basically about music, and as flawed as it is I'd like to believe there's an element of purity to that, I guess?

You're not embarrassing yourself! I think this is actually interesting. I'm still a bit hazy on what you're trying to say, but I think that I grasp it to some extent. I do agree that they seem to be less cynical than most people, there is something about them that is very positive and idk, otherworldly? Not in a weird sense...that's probably not even the right word. They just seem to have spirits that are different, they do look at things differently and just seem different. Idk the right words.

I'm glad I found a kindred spirit on this since I don't know how to express it either.
There's just something really endearing about them.
