I'll condense it down to the two or three I really cared about most, but some was characterization, some was plot.
For one, Cersei would rather DIE than have that conversation she did with Margaery. The show has turned her into solely a mother figure (and also rape victim but let's ignore that), which she is to some extent and it's sympathetic, but that's not
all she is. Cersei is absolutely, irrevocably thirsty for power. By the time we see her, she is done playing the part of Robert's bride and Tywin's daughter, she wants to be in control of the Seven Kingdoms. Her children, for the most part, were simply extensions of her power over the kingdom and over Robert. She would never ask for Margaery's help, even if she is playing some long con, as that allows Margaery to come in and influence Tommen, Cersei's LAST chance at holding onto power.
And really she's basically aiding in fulfillment the prophecy of a younger and more beautiful queen taking her place, which basically motivates a LOT of her actions.
Nope, just a fundamental misunderstanding of Cersei. The scene about Myrcella was wonderful, though!
The next one could be fixable to some extent, but I also didn't like how they handled Sansa at the Vale, besides Lysa obviously being amazingly entertaining. Sansa becoming Littlefinger's bastard was really significant to her character (
I'm a bastard now too, just like Jon). Her going from probable queen to the lowest of the low in society was so fascinating to me, but they just kind of skimmed over her even changing her identity, although I can't imagine them not getting back to her being Alayne. It cuts down on the immense creeper vibes from LF, too, but only a little. I was pretty surprised that they didn't save the reveal of who killed Jon Arryn for that BIG MOMENT at the end, as well. They blew their load pretty early there which was weird and anticlimactic. Also, pretty minor detail, but Sweetrobin running around and jumping into Littlefinger's arms kind of contradicts him being insanely sickly from his mother's smothering as well as him disliking Littlefinger. Not bothered by this one as much, as they'll definitely get to the former and the latter is negligible.
And I swear to God D&D must have made it their sole mission to add a rape storyline to any and all female characters, regardless of whether it was originally present or thematically relevant. The Meera scene was ridiculous and eventually they need to understand that you can have drama and tension without rape.
Things I Liked: Brienne and Pod are forever BAE, and I liked how they're finally showing some of Dany's doubt about what she's doing as opposed to simplifying her to a dragon-toting badass who says a few foreign words and conquers cities. They somehow made her conquest of Slaver's Bay just as boring and repetitive as her staying in Mereen. Jon reuniting with Ghost was sweet, too.
Some of these are nitpicky, I know, but it's a culmination of how they've treated my other favorite characters in the past as well. Them basically turning Catelyn's story into Robb's story (contradicting the
entire point of her character and straight up making her SHAME herself for her attitude towards Jon), turning Melisandre into a cut-and-dry villain (rather than someone legitimately concerned with the future of the world and willing to do anything to prevent The Others from winning), turning Arya and Brienne into tomboys who hate feminine women (when they are decidedly feminist), etc. That's why I didn't wanna get too into it, cause I know 90% of the people here wouldn't care and I'd just come off as bitter. So much for condensing it down.
