I'm still convinced it would have done over 1 billion if Vevo was a thing back then. You can't tell me a song that sold over 15 million worldwide and is nearly 10x Platinum in the states wasn't going to do that much damage on Vevo.
Bad Romance was the most viewed video on the internet at one point. None of the recent billion crossing songs can say that.
Yea, it even sold more than Applause.
Do What U Want sold about 320,000 (including the 80k copies it sold before it was eligible to chart), while Applause barely reached or hasn't even reached 300k yet.
Imagine if Do What U Want was made available in the UK right after the album release so that each sale of it would count towards the chart position.
Imagine if it got a music video.
It could have easily went gold
Applause was also never performed live in the UK.
Only at the Jingle Bell Ball (but I doubt that one was televised) and at the iTunes festival, but that one wasn't televised either.

I think it's more like :
Applause - 320,000
Do What U Want - 300,000
as far as I rememeber DWUW was never ahead of Applause
In reality it actually did sell more copies than Applause, but they didn't count the first week (~70k) so technically Applause outsold it
her USA stats were uploaded on her birthday and about UK poker face have just increased 0.04 million from the receipts provided in OP so i am not expecting much from the other
