Not absolutely the same, but Sky Ferreira had two studio albums shelved. First one was due to release in January 2011 (with a lead-single from 2010), but they cancelled it because it completely flopped so we got an EP instead. Second one should have been released along with EIE, the song and I can't really tell you the reason it got shelved as well, but yet once again only thing we got was an EP.
2013 should have been the year when Sky HAD TO release a debut album, the release dates were planned from March to August, until she had to announce that her debut will come on January 2014 (she said she wants to work with new people, but it was obvi not her decision — it was Capitol, her label).
At that time I was almost ready to give up on her (now I understand that I couldn't do it — so I can't do it with AB). Sky was fighting with her label and eventually we got lead-single, YNTO, released on September 2013, and debut was supposed to be released a month later. This was scary time for Sky stans — after all the delays we couldn't believe that it is coming and we were afraid to be let down once again. But it did come out. Even tho, it was digital-only release because her label didn't press CDs and vinyls on time
So, NT,MT (her debut album) was completely different but brilliant. Sky didn't include any if her n year-old singles (not even her breakthrough song EIE) and had made the album in two weeks. (It received a lot of critical acclaim and personally is one of my favorite albums ever)
Sky was at least doing something — she fought with her label (so she could push the release date again to 2013) and she even leaked the songs from her first shelved album
I wouldn't mind if Azealia did something similar — a completely new album with no 212s and no YRs (Even tho we are hyped about Miss Amore's and stuff, I'm pretty sure we will hear it eventually). Like a clean sheet. A personal album where she could rap about her childhood, unstoppable label dramas and beefs. With her musical creativity this could become a rap classic.
