I've been trying forever to get into Beautiful Sinner. I still dislike it, but like it better than Automatic.
I gave up on trying to like Automatic, it's just too damn annoying.

There's a whole lot of trash in the comments section of that Slate article, but among the trash are some gems:

The issue wasn't even Rosenberg's opinion, or Minaj being a woman (though that's a part of it.)

The issue is that it's inappropriate for a host to sh!t on the headlining artist *during* the flagship concert of the radio station. That's bad form and disrespectful. Minaj and Rosenberg are not equals or colleagues - she's a performer and he's a radio personality.

Hip-Hop does have a legacy of dissing and battling, but it's almost always kept within ranks: rappers diss other rappers, DJ's go at other DJ's, radio hosts talk smack about other radio hosts. When those lines blur, you have problems and the system jams up, like here.

The sexism comes into play when you grapple with the substance of what Rosenberg actually said. He sees no place in Hip-Hop for material that's driven by the $$ of teenaged girls. As messed up as that opinion is, he does have a right to it. Hoooowever - on stage at Summerjam is neither the time nor the place to air your grievances with the output of the performers.

Especially when the fans he has distain for are the ones who bought the tickets that paid for both Minaj and him to be there.

Calling one a "sell-out" is the weapon of the poor and financially ignorant. I don't mind one bit when artists "sell-out" as long as their honest and not hypocritical.

I always point to Q-tip of ATCQ transition from calling out MC Hammer "What you say Hammer, proper. Rap is not pop, if you call it that than stop" to fronting for Sprite, Budweiser, and McDonalds. Those Bentleys don't pay for themselves!

Stuff like this drives me nuts. It's patronizing and wrong. Were The Beatles "telling truth to power" when they were forced to present a certain public image, hair style and all? How about the Sex Pistols when their sponsor dictated the clothing they wore? How about The Ramones when their record label forced them to slow down for their records? The Monkeys were completely manufactured. Did those bands lack artistic merit? Or did they just lack your approval?
