Bieber never had to deal with indifference. He was still hated. Hate is a powerful emotion, it requires attention to be paid, and one can transform that attention into success with the right shift in music and image.
Gaga is facing cold, hard indifference, which is almost impossible to come back from. No one cares what she does anymore. No one cared when she did a rape song with R. Kelly. No one cared when she got puked on. It's why she's on a flopping niche Cable TV show.
