A song that has been released for weeks and does little to moderately well for a long period of time before becoming a hit. Take Sia's track Chandelier... It was released in March and only began smashing recently in the US.

Songs that ultimately become sleeper hits are usually written off after not exploding within the first couple weeks of being released.
