f(x) released a full album + repackage this year, i'm okay with them. 2AM should release a new album in korea, 1 year without any new release from them, they're like a male version of Brown Eyed Girls.

Only artists really well off are, like, YG Family ones. Maybe because their management isn't shady as hell. The rest...well, I mean, it's cool if they're with a company in the big 3/slightly under, but I can't imagine that it's even close to the celebrity life that we believe it to be. Like...SM can afford to pay for all expenses of their groups. They'll be fairly happy aside from the regular beatings. But I'm not so sure about, like, whoever runs ZE:A or Infinite or those type groups.

Guys, do K-Pop acts usually release an album/mini every year?
I seriously have no idea, but I know that it took BEG 2 years to release their latest album, while 2NE1 released an album last year, and a mini earlier this year.
And tbh, it seems like "comebacks" fly by! the formula is pretty obvious, they release a couple of teasers then the single and album come on the same exact day (which doesn't make sense to me at all), promote the title track for a couple of weeks then the repackage follows, eras die really quick and it kind of leaves you wanting more.

Most acts do at least 2 minis if not 1 mini/1 album a year, but in cases like BEG, SHINee, Super Junior and TVXQ recently, it differs. Other than that though, you have the whole repackage formula basically correct. JYP tends to stray from that heavily by actually promoting album tracks like an American label would (at least in WG's case circa 2008; future will tell), but he's basically alone. Every now and then followup tracks actually happen (GD&TOP come to mind), but they tend to just pump the releases out for the cheaply produced groups.

yes, Brown Eyed Girls are so selective when it comes to releases, that's why they took so long for release albums, the Sunny Hill's mini album was made with left lovers from Sixth Sense. they're like an exception.
Solo artists take more time to release albums (see BoA, Son Dambi, Hyori, Rain, Se7en etc.), maybe the idol thing is getting more and more popular in korea, so the labels are just doing what the public wants, idols releasing albums/minis faster.

Idols are starting to suck and not really be even slightly idol-like (see the groups this year).

Well, there's almost no group that start a career "ready", they need time to get secure of what they're doing, so i start to judge any rookie group by the 3rd/4th release.
and 2011 is a great year for rookies, some nice groups debuted like B1A4, Boyfriend, RANIA, Block B, Dal Shabet, Brave Girls and A PINK.

I wouldn't mind seeing K-Pop artists promoting more singles/videos per album. But Korean music fans have short attention spans. Songs peak on the charts really fast, most of the time almost immediately after release, whereas in the US songs climb the charts much more slowly and might not peak until several months after release. US music fans are usually content for an artist to promote one album for a full year, whereas Koreans want brand new material constantly, so the turnover rate is a lot faster. 2011 was actually a slower year for K-Pop. In 2010, Beast released 3 mini albums.

SHINee, 2ne1 and miss A started pretty darn ready IMO. These lesser companies just aren't doing it right.
Though I want Rania and A Pink to do well.

That's because none of the major labels debuted a new group this year. Next year, YG, JYP, and SM are all debuting new groups. 2012 is going to be an epic year for rookies to make up for a crappy 2011.

The whole YG-type-SNSD thing has me very, very excited. Plus SM groups are almost always good; I'm pretty sure they're putting together a Super Junior replacement (which is going to be needed at the rate that group's number count is shrinking).
Haven't heard about the JYP thing though. Eh?

Jonte said that a new boy group will come out of JYP in 2011. Here's a picture of him with who I'm assuming are the members of the group...

well, since 2AM and 2PM are going to stay in japan to promote, it's a good time to JYP debut a new boyband.
