Can't lie, expected more, but I'm happy Gaga got the #1 debut. The album is great, I'm listening to it thoroughly and can definitely say it's a quality album.

I don't see why you folks are having such a field day. Yes, the little monsters claimed she'd do better, but weren't you guys right when you said she declined heavily from Born This Way?

Weren't you folks the same people who said her career was over because of the pretentious alienating persona that came with Born This Way?

And you guys still expected her to sell on par from Born This Way's first week sales?

I think her numbers are fine considering what's happened to Gaga in the past 2 years.

I don't think anyone expected to see BTW numbers, BTW itself was inflated because of Amazon's now infamous .99 cent deal. However industry projectors stated before that they were looking for a 400k opening from Gaga, and she did little over half of that, there is reason for the car wreck reaction to these numbers. 100,000 of these sales came from pre-orders of at least semi-fans and the general public pooled in little over that for a final number of 259k. This is Gaga's third album, which leaves her in a very precarious position for the rest of her career. Is she really that far off from becoming the next Cyndi Lauper or Christina Aguilera in terms of cultural relevance? She's one disaster away from Bionic territory at this point. Her career is in need of some dangerous rehabilitation. Other wise that SNL parody, may soon reflect truth rather than comedy.

I'll agree that it's a decline. People were expecting more out of Prism too though, and that didn't happen.

And while 1st week sales may leave a first impression, that doesn't mean ARTPOP can't sell well like her other albums. So as far as the whole Lauper and Xtina situation goes, it's not quite at the point where we can consider that a reality. That and it's not uncommon for artists to become less popular and have a huge come back album. Let's not overreact and wait things out and then you guys can say whatever you like.

The only televised performance she did for it in/near release week was SNL. Rihanna did SNL and Victoria's Secret
