I really don't think the album is completely about Beyoncé. It focuses on the struggles black women (mostly) and other face in relationship in America. Hence the Malcom X part.
I think she just tied it with some little detail of her own story to make it fuller and connected.
Matthew for example is not dead and she said her dad dies in Daddy Lessons.
In summary, the albums explains all the phases a woman can go through in a marriage, whether the husband cheats or else. She imagines different phases of that grief and she deploys them. It is not necessarily real or one big wholesome message, it shows how different people deal with pain. Beyoncé is not the woman in all those stories, she just appropriates them. If that makes sense.
It's just like B'Day all over again : the message is almost identical : Kitty Kat, Ring The Alarm, Listen, Resentment and. I think people take it too literally.
This is one of the most beautiful works of art I have ever had the pleasure of listening to and seeing. It's so raw and transcendent. I cried, I smiled, I felt connected.
Okay so I finally watched the film and it was my first time hearing the music, as well. Blown away. Flawless. Now THIS is art. It took amazing strength to share so much of this and she did so with the highest quality.

Way too literally. The fact that some are on a witch-hunt for some Becky with good hair. A lot of the songs are sung in the 1st person so that they dont come off preachy and they remain relatable, doesnt automatically imply that Bey is the protagonist. She's the artist 1st and foremost
